It's hard to miss this huge statue when travelling east on the Denpasar by pass. What it lacks in finesse it makes up for it in size. The statue depicts part of the Ramayana epic when Rama built a bridge in the middle of the sea with the help of monkeys. Rama is seen in the centre with the monkey workers around.

I am a big fan of the artistic statues in Bali and the Titi Banda Statue depicts the sethu bridge (some time referred to as Adam bridge) built by the army of monkeys headed by Sugriwa from Rameswaram in Tamilnadu to the Sri Lanka. I was passing by this statue many times and managed to grab a few snaps during one of the rides.

This monument is spectacular and flamboyant and there is little that I can add to my previous review. Maybe the danger has increased if you wish to make a daredevil dash across the busy road to get a closer look. Last time we were able to park and take a couple of photos, this time the driver refused to entertain the suggestion; "too busy, police". The monument tells the story of Lord Rama and his band of monkeys who built the Titi Banda Bridge across to present-day Sri Lanka.

Beautiful statue in the middle of a very busy road.
The only parking is on the opposite side of the road.
You would have to be crazy if you think you want a closer look.
This is a shame as you cant read the plaques.
There was police here on the day but not interested in stopping traffic.
If you are in the area it may be worth a look/photo but i would not plan on crossing the road.

In another reference to the (Hindu) Ramayana epic the monument tells the story of prince Rama helped by deity Hanuman and an army of monkeys to rescue his beloved Sita captured by the devil and held in Lanka (present-day Sri Lanka). The monkeys look a bit like the actors in Planet of the Apes: quite human as they are carrying rocks and are building a bridge.
It almost looks like a new tradition on Bali to erect huge Ramayana inspired monuments on busy traffic junctions to serve as points of orientation for motorized vehicle drivers. Dewa Ruci near the airport and Baruna in Kuta are other examples of the same.
By the way Rama's journey was successful. He was reunited with his beloved Sita.

This huge monument is built in the middle of a real busy intersection and roundabout. It is huge, it is flamboyant, it is a photographers delight. The tall central figure is surrounded by monkey structures of varying sizes and carrying rocks. It purports to represent Rama who built the Titi Banda Bridge in the middle of the sea, assisted by monkeys that would pick up Sita abducted in Lanka. I really have no idea what the monument represents, tourism outlets do not seem to stock any literature and you are reliant on your driver or tour guide for information. This intersection has to be one of the busiest in Bali, view from a distance as your driver will pull over on the road shoulder so that you have a photo shot and to hell with the traffic behind and the calcopony of horns.

This is a massive statue on a roundabout/road junction. You can see it from a long way away. Unfortunately, despite the pedestrian crossing painted on the road, you'd be crazy to try to reach it because Bali traffic is crazy! No one keeps to their lane, they don't indicate, they straddle the lines, they use the horn a lot. There's a video on YouTube of Titi Banda by night that's worth looking at. If you are driving past it after dark you'll notice it changes colour rapidly. There are fountains on the monument as well as gods and monkeys riding impossibly blue waves.

This is a spectacular sculpture but has lost some of its lustre over the years. Like many other monuments in Bali there seems minimal maintenance to combat the elements, and this results in fading paintwork primarily.

This is at a major intersection so it is hard to miss if traveling the bypass. It is spectacular and quintessentially Balinese.

This statue is one of of many around the Island of Bali and you can not help but stare in awe at the sheer size and detail. Each one tells a story so make sure you ask a Balinese to tell you .
