About
This cultural venue, also called Puri Saren Agung, was once the residence of the royal family of Ubud. Immerse in Balinese culture through traditional performances staged every evening in its main pavilion. Look forward to performances like the traditional barong and legong dances, that depict epic tales like the Ramayana and Mahabharata, vibrant costumes, and performed to live music created using local artistes and traditional instruments. There are different performances staged throughout the week so you can expect something new with every visit. You can purchase tickets at the door but arrive at least 30 minutes earlier to secure good seats in the house. – Tripadvisor

Such an amazing experience! I went on my solo trip to Ubud and this was definitely a highlight. Read the stories and background on the performances before they start to get the most out of it. I would just recommend getting there as soon as they start putting chairs out as I imagine it would have been hard to see if you were much further back than I was (I was in the second row but am quite short and was behind a tall kid wearing a hat the whole time 😅). Also - bring enough water to drink and mosquito repellent. It's quite hard to get up and out once you're in, until the performance ends. This is an experience I would definitely recommend doing while you're in Ubud!

Fantastic dance show that is enjoyable, accessible and evocative. We loved the colour and pageantry. It is performed by a very proud local community and at 100k Rp it is really great value. From what discovered this is definitely the dance show to visit while in Ubud.

There are a few shows in various locations around Ubud. You will get hounded to buy a ticket. Just do one. Whatever suits your itinerary. I was free the Saturday evening, there was a show on at Ubud Palace so purchased a ticket and went! Ticket price August 2022 was only 100,000 IDR. Starts on time 19:30 (little before even) and ends just before 21:00. Get there around 19:00 as seats are not allocated. I thought I was early but it was already half full and it had only just turned 19:00. The performance is in the open. Some seats are sheltered and others not. Some are seated on the floor or wooden chairs. There is also an area by the tree and other places. Loads of seating options. I got a side seat on a wooden chair which was fine. If like me you get bitten by anything and everything, spray yourself in deet and cover up! You can purchase nibbles and drinks. Show starts on time. Some people came late and had to stand. Full. The ticket also acts as a programme which gives you a brief description about each dance. I don't want to spoil it but basically the performance is split into around 9 cultural dances each lasting around ten minutes plus or minus. There is no interval. It was nice. I travel a lot and enjoy doing these things in various countries and Ubud is the 'cultural heart' of Bali. This was good but some of it was very similar and I did get a little bored at times. The music and costumes were nice. I did notice other people feeling the same and some left early. I stayed till the end and I would recommend going. Annoyingly, some people managed to walk in free after the performance had started as the staff checking tickets had gone! A bit unfair to people like me who paid. If you don't mind seeing part of a performance and standing at the back, you can do this! Let's be honest, not really right. We need to support tourism more so now than ever. There are toilets on the premises too.

We met Arsana when we were picked up by him at Denpasar airport.
We immediately had a click with him, not in the last place because he spoke English very well and we felt very safe when he drove us around in the traffic he called “organized chaos”.
In the 17 days that we were in Bali, he showed us the island in six days as only a Balinese can.
On those days we had lunch with him, among other things, at the most beautiful locations that he picked out for us every time. We were just as enthusiastic about Bali as about our guide Arsana and all the places he showed us.
Thanks to him we have been able to take very beautiful photos for which we were given the opportunity of Arsana every time. An unforgettable memory of our journey.
I have already given his name three times in the Netherlands since we returned on December 18, 2019 - to family who are also going to Bali - to have an experience just as beautiful as we had.
Thank you Arsana,

The dance was good to see from a cultural perspective, they provide a brochure to help explain what is occurring and the dancers were all well rehearsed. It does get packed out and therefore its good to get there early to get a good seat. The show lasts approximately 1.5 hours.

The Ubud Palace dance performance is a stunning array of colour, music and theatre. A great Balanese cultural experience, well worth a visit. A couple of things to consider;
1. Get there early to get a close seat.
2. Buying tickets from the boys on the street around the Palace is fine, it's not a scam.
3. Be prepared is a long performance about an hour long.
4. You really MUST read the story in the pamphlet to understand the performance, otherwise it's very difficult to get the story.

It was pure coincidence that we went to a dance show at Ubud Palace. We had been to a restaurant in the evening and happened to pass Ubud Palace about 40 minutes before a show was due to begin which meant that there was a person outside selling tickets. The toilets on site were terrible so go to the toilet in a restaurant beforehand. The show went on for about 2 hours (1 hour more than we felt had been needed). Even so, it was still worth the experience because the show was something unique, at least for all Europeans I would bet on. For us two adults it cost 133 SEK.

Tickets ordered via Get your guide are going very well. If you arrive early you can choose your seat. Pay attention to the seats right in front of the stage, people will sit on the floor in front of you, intended for children, but not everyone understands that.
Take drinks and mosquito repellent with you because you will be punctured.
Nice show, some parts last a little too long. At a certain point they look the same, just different clothing or masks. The show lasts over 1 hour and that's just beautiful.
Definitely thought it was worth it

Very colorful show and super nice to watch. Attention, this event only seems to take place on Sunday evening. You actually have to come an hour before to be well placed. We bought our tickets at that time. From memory, 7 or 8 dances that follow each other with different costumes and dancers. A dozen musicians are also present. For our part, we were sitting on the floor facing the show. Chairs are available on the side. For photography lovers, it is a treat 😜.

A captivating, exciting, extraordinary show!! We chose to attend the performance "Women Kecak and Fire Dance" which takes place every Tuesday, in the Pura Batukaru. This show takes the story of Ramayana and is accompanied by a women's choir. Words are not enough to describe the beauty of this show. Voices, characters, costumes... Everything was amazing. We went there as a family, with our 4 year old daughter, not necessarily very keen on art and concerts, and she too was captivated. Go ahead without any hesitation!

Less than $7 (USD) -- can get them easily near the theater starting about 2 hours before performance

Is there a restaurant next to the palace where you can eat dinner while watching the show?
Written 30 October 2017
Hi,
there are at least "two shows in town"- one at Ubud Palace and the other at Ubud Water Palace - check the online websites for "weekly schedules of dance shows in Ubud" about days/times - they are quite fixed and there is also a printed guide at the tourist information, but the ones on the internet seem to be up-to-date.
At Ubud Palace - no restaurant. At Ubud Water Palace there's Lotus Cafe (if I am not mistaken) where you could have a meal/drink before the show - but not really watch shows from the restaurant - it would be quite far.
My recommendation - bring a snack and drink while waiting for the show to start. If you get there at least one hour - one hour and a half - before the show and get front seats, it will totally worth the wait. We went to shows without front seats and to shows with front seats, it is a big difference obviously.
Enjoy.
