Nice Island Trip Near Makassar City
May 2021
You can go by 20 minutes boat rides, it range from 300k-500k rupiah for chartering boat to go there. It's really beautiful island, you can enjoy the sea view, sunset and also do snorkeling there. Try to find local there to enjoy full experience with good prices. I was met some locals there and she gave me decent deals. More people you had on your group the better you gonna get the price.

a childhood expereince
Aug 2019
it was 1951, my father was a pilot for the makassar harbour.
we would often go there for the day.i was ten years old then, i would jump off the little motorboat and swim the rest to shore.
there was no commercialization back then, it was just a deserted island that was frequented by families for a day outing and picnic.
i am sad to see that it has become so commercialized.

Nice day trip
Sep 2019
Small island off the coast of Makassar. It was nice for a day trip to get out of the city, but there wasn't much to do on the island except for snorkelling. We got a boat from outside fort rotterdam and it cost IDR 500,000 for the return journey. The island itself doesn't take long to explore, but the locals with catch and bbq fish for you. PRices are quite high on the island, but the boat trip was fun and it was a nice day out.

Daily escape
Jan 2018 • Friends
cozy place to escape from hectic activities and to feel a bit like robinson crusoe. Length for visit better not more than two days. Eventhough it lacks of clean water it a perfect place for snorkeling and camping. Start ur campfire, roasting corn and fish will complete ur escape plan. If the weather is good u can enjoy sleeping on the seashore while watch the star either sleeping in a hammock.
Dont forget to bring mosquito repellent, ur own torch since the electric power is limited

A very nice island
Jul 2018 • Family
Similar to Keke Island, the water around the island is crystal clear ... unfortunately with too much rubbish. Nonetheless is a very nice spot for snorkelling. You do not need to go far from the shore to see some interesting fish. Avoid weekends when the island can be quite crowded.

White sandy beach with dazzling varieties of fish and coral reefs.
Jul 2018 • Family
This beach is about 20-25 minutes ride by boat from the port of Popsa in Makassar. It has white sandy beachfront, very clear water and you can see the sea floor up from a few metres up. This beach is very suitable for snorkling and diving, and you'll be treated with dazzling varieties of fish and coral reefs.

Just be careful not to step on or touch the sea urchins which are settling on the sea floor in groups, or you might get stung and will be in pain for a couple of days. Sea urchins are easy to spot, they are black and have thorns all over their round bodies.

The best time to visit this island is from 0700-1500, stay longer than that and you will encounter a little bit of high waves on your way out of the island back to the city.

Nice island - Great for snorkeling
Nov 2017 • Family
It's a small island that's got great snorkeling. Day trips are good, but you can organise to hire out a house and stay overnight (we've done both, but with young kids would recommend just a day trip because it can be noisy and hot at night - kids didn't sleep well). Bring your own water. You can hire snorkeling gear there or bring your own. Swimming shoes are recommended as well - there were heaps of sea urchins about... They'll give you a nasty sting. Swimming there is way nicer than any swimming that we've done around Makassar.

Small Island near to Makassar
Jul 2018 • Friends
Samalona Island is a great choice for those who are looking for sunset. Ride a small boat from fort rotterdam port (cost around IDR 400K). This island has a clear blue ocean, great spot for snorkeling. Overheard that it has so many sea urchins, so that you have to be more careful.

The island also has a beautiful scenery but doesn't managed well and a bit dirty.
