BREATHTAKING PLACE
Nov 2019 • Friends
It's another one of beautiful hidden waterfalls in Sumba Island. You must visit and explore this place. The water is so clear, clean and fresh.

Beautiful waterfalls, they could be better managed
Jan 2020 • Couples
Very very beautiful falls, located in the same natural park as matayanku waterfalls (which require more trekking time to be reached). There is a parking fee, an entrance fee (very low for locals but very expensive for foreigners - an unjustified 150k IDR) and the mandatory local guide fee. The vehicle road access is definitely not the best, while the walk to the waterfalls spot is quick (10 mins) and easy (but not particularly well kept). You can swim under the falls, probably crowded only during weekends, in an amazing atmosphere. Facilities at the parking /entrance are in cement, which definitely doesn't help the beautification also given local material could have been bamboo with a little effort. As there is a fee and a guide you would also expect a bit more info / organization.

Nice waterfall & swim at high price
Oct 2019
The Price 150K rupiah entry, + 30K for the guide + parking , looses it a star. The guide is compulsory " because of an accident/rock fall", has official local guide tabard & machete. He is useful though to guard you stuff while you swim . 5 minute walk, bamboo bridge. .The dry viewing area is small, but (in dry season) I could wade to the bottom of the fall, & past it to a nice swim up another stream. In the week we were only guests. We went by SUV, the road would be testing by scooter with 8 km of potholes & one steep gravel section. Also Local people in West Sumba are concerned about crime safety, & some advise against scootering alone around the region. Certainly Waikabubak market area seems edgy after dark. Scooters 150K/day much higher than Bali

Easy to reach the fall
Jun 2019 • Couples
Great waterfall, considered easy trekking though some slippery rocks. Hot and humid for sure even in June. Love the long bamboo bridge, unfortunately can be a long wait if there is a big group because bridge can only hold 2 people at a time

Must do whilst in Sumba

Only a small walk to get to falls. Do wear sneakers for the walk as it can be a bit uneven.
You don’t need to pay for a guide to take you falls as it is 10 minute walk to it. When you get there you can have a swim.

Overpriced!
Dec 2018 • Couples
To be honest, Lapopu is very nice waterfall in beautiful setting and you can get a good swim in the pool underneath. Anyway, it's overpriced for what you get! You pay parking fee, entrance fee, NP fee, guide (who cannot speak English at all!). So for the 2 people who arrived on the scooter, we paid maybe 40-50 dollars. It's 5 mins walk, swim in the pool under the waterfall and back = 30-45 mins total spent there. That's not Indonesian price!
We were originally planning to go to the other waterfall in the park (Matayangu) too, but when they asked for extra 20 dollars for the guide, we said thanks and left.

Apparently, the Lapopu price was even higher last year, but since many local tourists complained (there were many people from Jakarta), they dropped the price a bit. Still expensive as hell, but try to ask next year, it might be cheaper ;)
