Why ? Because you can take public transport from anywhere in Lombok to get to the closest harbours, theres public minibuses and Bemos to get here. And then from the coast theres many different boat operators, the cheapest ones for 250.000 roundtrip for the whole boat. So save your money and get here locally and cheap. I heard the rip off tour agents in Kuta Lombok charge almost 300 US dollars to get to Kondo.
Beautiful empty island where you almost should stay overnight to get the full potential out of it. That means camping in your own tent or sleeping in your own hammock under a "brygga" Indonesian covered version of a rest place....if rainy season bring some big blue plastic tarps and rope like we did, then you can "close" the whole thing....see photo...
Good snorkelling with very very good quality soft corals, not so much big fish and strong currents.
Theres a warung that sell only snacks and instant mie with a fried egg and instant drinks, so be prepared to loose a few kilos if you stay longer like we did. We stayed for 2 weeks....total bliss. No shower but a semi ok toilet....and the old owners of the warung are an amazingly friendly and helpful couple, they will do their best to help you out.
Definetly recommended, forget about the over exploited Gilis on the other side of Lombok, only loosers go there.

It takes patien to go there as we needed to drive around 3 hours to reach the beach to meet pak Jefri our boatman to get us to the island. It is part of our hoping island to 4 islets Kondo, Bidara, Kapal and Petagan. Petagan is a mangrove island. The boat can go into when the tide is high enough for the boat to pass. And that means the gili Kapal is so tiny which make your picture spectacular as if you are in the middle of no where come out from the sea. Our boatman took us around Petagan for snorkeling and fish feeding. Loved to see the fish. We spent most of the hours in Gili Kondo (actually it is Gili Bagek for officer who were lazy to wait for the tide to get low to put the sign in Kondo instead they put the sign of Gili Kondo in Gili Bagek together with the sign of Gili Bagek). As the sign of Gili Kondo is more easily seen instead of Gili Bagek, hence people name it Gili Kondo. Gili Kondo is to the south of gili Bagek. At low tide the two islets are connected by a 'long sand way'. People do not go to the real Kondo as there are many snakes stay there.
At weekend there are many visitors that will accompany you to visit "uncle". We can even camp there. If you want it more peace please come at weekdays. Bring your own food because the seller only come at weekend. There are snorkel, gogle and fin to hire too.
My friends have camp here a few times. Full moon & sunrise are funtastic here. We enjoyed it very much.
Tips: go with pak Jefri. His house is near the port. He built wash rooms for his passengers to clean with fresh water. His wife sells snack and nibles in their house. So you can buy while waiting for your turn to wash yourself. For moslem, you can also shalat in his house.

I went there with my friends this June (2017). We were island hopping the Gili Kapal - Gili Kondo - Gili Bidara - Gili Petagan. Gili Kondo was best for stopping by, noon prayers (if you are a moslem), snorkeling and strolling along its coastline. You can walk this island in about 30 minutes and you can find interesting savanna face to face with Lombok Island and Sumbawa Island seen from afar. A must visit!

I love the Gili Kondo, the place and view, is superb. what with the clear water.
there are several hut, our tour guide, did prepare for our bbq. with the view and full tummy, it spectacular.

but unfortunately, no clean water, so you might need to bring a box of mineral water from home or buy it in any store.

the toilet don't have any water, no point bathing, if you will continuing the swimming or snorkeling. if you wanna do your business, think fast and far away.

and please, protect our environment, no point if you just throw all the rubbish there, then complaining it's dirty. my family and i, we even pick up all the trash. but still, it is too many of it. and we kinda short of time. and also, teach your kid or any ignorance friends that starfish and coral is not a plaything nor a prop for their picture.

See several family letting their kids put a big rock on top of starfish, and threw it like a frisbee. and the parent letting them. we just saw it from far away, though that they playing with the pebble.

the place is beautiful, but it will be more stunning if people, keep their trash in.

We had an amazing 2d/1n tour with tour guide Eddy. First we were snorkeling and it was absolutely breath taking! Crystal clear water and very nice corals and fishes! We then visited the mangroves and a small sand island. Then we went to Gili Bidara where we could also go snorkeling. Finally we went to Gili Kondo where we stayed overnight and enjoyed the stunning sunrise. After another snorkelling near the beach we went back to the port. All the time Eddy and the two companions took well care of us and the food was very delicious. We can highly recommend this amazing and authentic tour with Eddy! If you also want to book a tour with him: +62 823 3916 8368. He also offers tours to Rinjani (2d/1n) and day tours arround Tetebatu. We did the second and it was absolutely amazing!

When travel to Lombok, head east to Gili Kondo and friends. Located near Kayangan Harbor, harbor to cross to Sumbawa island. Make sure you read the sign carefully as it is not largely written on the main road. In the area there are 4 islands which can be hopped on: Gili Petagan, Gili Kapal, Gili Bidara and Gili Kondo. Gili Petagan will give you beautiful mangrove scenery (go early in the morning to be able to sail through the mangroves). Just outside the mangroves, you'll find quite large snorkeling spot. Hop on to Gili Kapal to be mesmerized by the clear blue sea and sky. Gili Bidara and Gili Kondo offer more snorkeling spots. The corals are various in shape but not really in colors. However, limited facilities provided in the islands, so make sure before you sail, ask the boatman to help you provide lunch and water. Price to charter a boat (up to around 6 persons): 800,000 rupiahs, included lunch and snorkeling gears (at first you'll be offered higher price, so try to bid for cheaper one). P.S: bring your own snorkeling gears if you own any. From my observation sadly there are no hotels or homestays around, so you have to travel around 1,5 - 2 hours from Senggigi one way.

We took the boat from Pulau Lampu boat harbour and it cost relatively good ( approx $40 AUD return). It takes less than 10 minutes to ride to the island on a calm day but could be longer on a windy day. The island is not clean but the beach are fantastic. White sandy beach and you actually do not need any equipment to just enjoy looking at the colorfull fish nearby your swim area. But for people who enjoy snorkeling, it is a paradise. Remember to brings water and some fruits or snack. It's a great fun for a day out.

We had our own local boat taking us around and we were not disappointed. Away from the crowds and just time to enjoy the moment. Good snorkeling and clear water on the day we visited. Can recommend it to all who like it quiet and slow.

We booked overnight stay with snorkeling in our homestay and were not disappointed.
Our guide and captain took us around all secret islands, cooked us lunch, dinner and breakfast and gave us water.
We went snorkeling in around three or four places but it was the most beautiful close to Gili Kondo.
It was super hot when we slept in tent but the sunrise was totally worth it (even beaten the fact that we were completely eaten by mosquitoes).
