A trip to Jericho is not complete without a stop at Zacchaeus' sycamores. Even if neither tree is the very same one that Zacchaeus climbed, it is still interesting to see an ancient tree while reflecting on Jesus' meeting with Zacchaeus.
There is another tree at the Greek Orthodox Monastery of the Prophet Elisha and they also have an old dry stump in a glass enclosure. The monastery and the museum are in the same area so it is worth seeing both sycamore tree sites, if the monastery is open.

This is the area/site where Zacchaeus, a man short in stature, climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus.

Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector and was wealthy.

Upon meeting Jesus, he proclaimed to The Lord that he would give half of all his wealth to the poor.

Very nice street vendors hawk their wares at this site, and the dates are delicious.

Worth visiting for a short few minutes.

God Bless.

It was fenced and protected ,
Nice to have seen the tree that is so famous in the Bible. The bus just passed by and had a chance to take photos because it is located in an area where it is hard to park .

I recommend seeing this tree and letting your mind imagine Jesus walking in the direction of the tree to greet Zacchaeus and going home with him!

A man named Zaccheus climb up the sycamore tree to get a view of Jesus, because he's short of stature. This tree is made famous and now they have this tree for everyone to see.

I did'nt really know the significance of the tree until our tour guide decided to stop at it and show us. I then heard the story of the tree by a local merchant who then went on to tell me his story. Being a merchant he did end up taking me to his fruit stall and offered me free juice. I did of course give him some money before I left but It was a really nice experience talking to a local.

It’s a tree in Jericho, yes.
Our bus just stopped on the side of the road to look at it and take a picture. It does not deserve any more time than that.

As a pastor I have been to Jericho many times. One stop we usually make is at the tree. It is a very large and tall sycamore tree. The gentleman working the souvenir stand says "welcome to Jericho and to the 2000 year old Zaccheus tree. Very nice stop. The tree is not far from downtown Jericho. Easy to get too.

but this tree, said to the the oldest sycamore tree in the world, is not really much of an attraction. Our guide was not particularly thrilled in pointing the tree out to us and even said we didn't need to go down from the bus as parking was a challenge. So we just craned our necks over a sea of cars parked around the garden where the tree was planted as the bus made a lighting stop.

And I don't think it was the exact same tree mentioned in the Bible. Still, I marveled at the fact that I was in Jericho, the oldest occupied city in all of human history - incredible!

As for the tree, it was nice to be reminded of the story. As a reminder for us, then yes, it serves its purpose.

Our guide said that this is not the original tree and this tree may be 800 years old. But the feeling is great about Zaccheeus who climbed on the tree to see Jesues
