The New York State Capitol has served as the seat of government for New York since the 1880's. Over 125 years old, the building is a marvel of late 19th-century architectural grandeur. Built by hand of solid masonry, it took 5 architects and 32 years to complete. Over the years meticulous restoration has been done to maintain and protect the Capitol for future generations of New Yorkers.

Everyone should visit and tour the Capital. There is a lot of history there for all to take in. You don't necessarily need to take a tour, but the architecture and displays have so much to offer. Plan your visit when the Senate is in session and view the business from the gallery area.

I have worked in this building and had tours of it several times. So much history here and such beautiful and impressive stonework. I take visitors to my city here sometimes. Please be aware that tours start downstairs in the Empire State Plaza concourse and will require you to pass through security (metal detector/x-ray).

It would be nice to be in summer but it was fine walking outdoor at this time. Everyone was still on holiday so streets were freed-up. The surrounding is a must to walk and see. Great downtown.

I have visited a number of state capitols - NJ, KS, NE,HI, AK, GA but I never have gone to my home state capitol - Albany, NY. I guess because it's only about 2 miles from my house and I figured I would get there eventually. I finally did. It was similar to other state capitols - older buildings heavily... More

The capitol is extraordinarily unique among capitols. There are 3-4 architectural styles showcased within the building since it took so long to construct. The tour was very well done and highlighted all the important parts of the building. At some points, you feel like you're in Hogwarts!

This has to be one of the most amazing state houses in the country. I have had a tour of the building in the past and if you can arrange one you should do so. The exterior went over budget and the project was ultimately stopped with some finishing touches not completed due to budget over runs. A tour will... More

We were part of an excursion tour with American Cruise Lines, aboard the American Glory, docked at Troy. Our first stop was the Capitol Building. After passing through airport-type security, we were joined by a tour guide who took us through the building. Built just after the Civil War, this building is either an opulent edifice or a scandalous waste... More

Locates bin the downtown Albany. It is one of the most well maintained and beautiful big-old building. You won't missed it when you are in here.
