    Great traveller experience
terrific fish market for those that enjoy getting into the local spirit when travelling. Sri Lanka are huge seafood eaters, so seeing the produce market is fantastic. We went at 5.00 a.m and it was a hive of activity. Everyone is very friendly. Def an interesting experience!

Short stop for a walk around
We live in Asia for 11 years so seeing this fish market and the way they dried the fishes, wasn’t that surprising to us. Yet we walk around that kind of peninsula in the different villages and fisheries, away from the brouhaha of the market it felt authentic and picturesque. We did spot species we were surprised to see.

    Special vibe
We visited this famous Fish Market, which was a bit shocking for me at first. Later I’m used to the strong smell and enjoyed this lively place. It’s interesting and it was a real local experience. Don’t miss it!

Visited the fish market. From a distance you can get the strong smell of the fishes all layed out on mats to dry on the beach. You can see how they slog in the sun to earn..

Showed a proper fish market to my family who enjoyed seeing all the different variety of fish! We bought a very fresh seerfish that was just delicious! Highly recommended if you are a fish/seafood amateur!

I really enjoyed visiting Negombo Fish Market - it’s busy, smelly, and great for excellent photo opportunities!

P.s. don’t wear flip flops like my friend did - she ended up smelling of fish guts for days!

We came here as part of our guided tour around Sri Lanka, what an amazing place, I have never seen so much fish drying in the sun in one place before, you can smell the distinctive smell of the drying fish, from quite a distance. There was quite a selection of fish the day we were there and it was nice to be able to see the way they were prepared and put out to dry in the sun
