What an amazing place, we'd heard a lot about the white temple, but you need to see for yourself just how spectacular it is, what an gifted artist. It was refreshing change not to feel ripped off by the cost of visiting tourist attraction, the...More

We didn't go inside, as you can get great pics from behind the entrance. Beautiful and intriguing, but swarmed with tourists!

Many tourist were there and the temple is just next to the road. A temple built based on a concept of heaven and hell, on earth. Nice architecture, hell on the outside (picture taking allowed), heaven inside (no pictures allowed). Our tour guide from Touring...More

Private temple with artworks from a Thai artist. Incredible. Inside the temple, where photos are forbidden (probably for commercial reasons, but I can't tell for sure), there's a wall painting with many pop references, like Freddie Kruger and Pikachu. The architecture is amazing. Entrance is...More

I have wanted to visit for a few years and finally got there. It's an arty, eclectic tourist attraction as opposed to a traditional Thai temple but wow, there is a lot to see and take in. Worth a visit for sure if you are...More

The temple looks amazing, stunning, outstanding from outside. The architecture and design are super. However, it's a very small temple as well. Once you get in, you get out right away, nothing much to see inside. There are some areas under maintenance, I think they...More

Seeing the pictures does not prepare you for how stunning the temple is. Lots of picture opportunities, my son, 11, found it fascinating.

Hi. I am travelling to Chiang Mai during Songkran. All travel agencies are closed,so the only option is a private tour, which is quite expensive just for me and my girlfriend. Anyone interested in sharing a tour??? My preferred date is the 14th April. And the tour looks great, visiting cafe on the way to the White temple , visit included of course, ancient city, lunch, opium museum and boat. Please let me know if anyone is interested. kind regards

The White temple is not at Chiang Mai its at Chiang Rai a little over 3 hours away. I would recommend you take the government bus to Chiang Rai and from there take a taxi. The government bus has 3 classes, take the highest... More

A couple of questions please. 1. What was there before the artist build the White Temple in 1997? Was there a historic Wat in ruins there before? Some articles hint at this, but it's not clear. 2. Is there an actual Buddhist sangha there? I have seen pictures of Buddhist monks there, but has the Thai Buddhist community actually embraced it as a confirmed temple? Thanks!

I'm not sure of the pre-history of the white temple location. I believe it is a actual temple. You are required to cover up, remove shoes and hats like all the other wats we visited The place is not finished yet. They are... More

How much would it/ should it cost to get a red bus/cab to take me here? Or would it be cheaper to hire one for the day?
