Night Market
Jan 2020
We walked to the night market in Chiang rai from our Baanmalai hotel. It is near the Chiang Rai Bus station. There were all sort of merchandise being sold and includes fabrics, housewares, clothes, souvenirs, food and drinks. You can relax here while sipping a beer or two. There was a stage, on which local artist were performing some number. We spent 2 hours here.

Despite VERY SPARSE visitors (due to COVID-19) they still had a very good guitarist and singer. Totally free and unique.

Great choice for eating out.

Great big open- air food market, with lots of choices of food, freshly cooked. Mainly Thai, but very cheap prices and good food. Outside food court lots of different market stalls, selling all sorts of things.

Good shopping and delicious hot-pot
Jan 2020
Wonderful food experience hat is equally shared by locals AND tourists alike. The main food court, filled with folding yellow metal tables and chairs, is surrounded by all the food options you could ask for! Kebabs, grilled fish, fully-prepared dishes,tempura-style fried items, fresh fruit and smoothies - but the star of the show here is the hot pot. Just take a look around at what everyone is eating! There are infinite options of platters, including mixed meats, mixed seafoods, vegetarian platters, and when you choose a shop and order a meal set, you will be shown a table where your bubbling pot of broth will be placed, along with your meats and a basket full of vegetables, greens, herbs and noodles to complete the meal. There are bar stalls where you can purchase a refreshing beer to accompany the meal, and I found that a mixed fried platter rounded out the meal perfectly.

There is a stage at one end, with live music or another type of entertainment happening every night - the night I visited, a rather sad drag show was on, so not the best representation as far as I can tell!

Other than the food, the night market is a maze of alleys lined with stalls, selling clothing, jewelry, leather goods, Hilltribe embroidery, small souvenirs, and so much more. Bargaining is welcome, and done very politely - in fact, there was very little forced selling at the bazaar, which was a nice change from other Southeast Asia markets. My favorite was the woman who created a v-shape knife to carve the "eyes" from a pineapple, and has the newspaper articles to prove her invention. Her knife is GENIUS - you HAVE to get one!

many food stall and souvenir sellers

Many food stall and souvenir sellers. Price is relatively affordable. The city is safe for walks and you can also choose riding their traditional tuk-tuk

One of the Better Night Markets
Feb 2020
This night market consisted of two adjoining areas, one the food court, the other, all the other stuff, clothing, handcrafts, souvenirs, etc. Generally, higher quality stuff in the latter but still tourist-oriented. In the food court there was a surprising but welcome abundance of seafood. Also abundant seating and occasional entertainment.

A typical Thai night market with good and bad points
Nov 2019
It's quite big, particularly the eating area. There's often free entertainment going on. It's well located.

On the downside, articles for sale are often pretty tatty tourist fare; not on the same scale as Chiang Mai Night Market for example. A lot is crowded into a small area.

Certainly worth a look whilst there.

Had It All
Feb 2020 • Friends
I enjoy night markets and this particular one had it all. It's a great market as you have the normal Same Same sellars but I found so many items you wouldn't see in Bangkok or more Southern cities. I ate many spicy meat dishes without a problem and 2 fruit smoothies. No stomach issues (foreigners always ask me) which I didn't expect as everything was fresh and I order prepared in front of me to watch the magic.

Average night bazaar
Mar 2020
Not much activities around, the Chiang Mai only selling clothing and fake merchandises, prices are not cheap as other markets, and it's touristy, starts after 6:00PM each night, 5 to 10 minutes walk around
