I really would liked to have spent more time here as it was unexpected how extensive the ruins are. If you are interested in temple ruins try and schedule some extra time....

We did not know what to expect when we drove out here but were surprised by the ruins. It provided a clear understanding of the old city. The ruins set in parkland were particularly interesting plus peaceful

These walls show a big piece of local history. They can be seen as a drive by location if you are in the area.

The ruins of the old city walls disapointed a bit. Nice to make a stop if you have more items to visit that day but you can''t spend long there. About 30 mins max. Then you have seen it all.

These walls start to give one a sense of how important this sleepy little town once was. As you follow them, there are lots of small visual surprises, and you have a sense of gradually moving back into history.

Reading Plugger14's review I really had fun. His lovely style of formulating an understatement: "I love old city walls and these look more genuine than some of the rebuilds in other cities". Or he is an art historian and sees more than those who aren't...More

We spent over an hour walking through this place and taking it all in. It helps to have a tour guide. If you have the time you should go. There were some great vendors too.

Chiang Saen is an interesting half day tour from Chiang Rai. Lots of history but definetely need a tour guide for explanation. However, it would be better if Chiang Saen were combined with the Golden Triangle tour as it is on the same route.
