I love old city walls and these look more genuine than some of the rebuilds in other cities. We hired a taxi from Chiang Rai for 2500 baht for the day and had a very enjoyable day in this town and the surrounds.

Evidence of the city walls runs around Chiang Saen. There walks that take you into and around the walls with quite nice parkland around the walls. For those interested in the history of the place then this is a must visit. We were staying at the Golden Triangle and drove in - parking was easy and we had some map... More

Our guide took us to this place that we didnt know existed. She told us all about the history of it and we found that very interesting to listen to and see.

Lovely old city with lots of history. Take a private tour guide to get the most out of it. We took a guide from the FS Tented Camp and he was one of the best we have ever experienced worldwide. But lots of history for you to see.

Its a lovely quiet walk around the ruins. You do need a guide or some background information on the walls of chiang saen before walking it, if not, just treat it as a nice scenic walk.

We stopped here on the way to the opium museum and it's a great walk in a quiet little town. A bit more history on the ruins would be good.

This was the last place we visited in our day tour. It was getting dark when we reached this place. Took pictures of the ancient stupa or chedi, the building next to it, the walls and the now dry river bed. Wished we had more time to explore and visit this attraction!

To see the city walls and all the temples in the area you need time as there are so many to see. We had a driver to take us around the area.
