Take a walk

Unfortunately, we only saw the old city walls from our bus. There appears to be an inner and outer wall. It should be a wortwhile place to take a stroll

We were taken here and told the history of this area .The beautiful remains of a temple in a peaceful area was quite stunning .Memories of Ankor Wat on a mini scale .

The hilltop of Wat Phra That Pha Ngao offers great view of the Golden Triangle and Mekong River. Inside of the 10th-century temple has a beautiful artwork of Buddha images. Also Chiang Saen National Museum has a good collection of old stone carvings, Buddha images and historical artifacts.

It seems you can't drive more than a few km in the North without seeing a " we just have to stop and see spot" and so it on our list is Chiang Saen .Chiang Saen sits on the banks of the Mae Khong River . It is a 12th century walled city .You can easily make out the remains... More

I love old city walls and these look more genuine than some of the rebuilds in other cities. We hired a taxi from Chiang Rai for 2500 baht for the day and had a very enjoyable day in this town and the surrounds.

Evidence of the city walls runs around Chiang Saen. There walks that take you into and around the walls with quite nice parkland around the walls. For those interested in the history of the place then this is a must visit. We were staying at the Golden Triangle and drove in - parking was easy and we had some map... More

Our guide took us to this place that we didnt know existed. She told us all about the history of it and we found that very interesting to listen to and see.

Lovely old city with lots of history. Take a private tour guide to get the most out of it. We took a guide from the FS Tented Camp and he was one of the best we have ever experienced worldwide. But lots of history for you to see.

Its a lovely quiet walk around the ruins. You do need a guide or some background information on the walls of chiang saen before walking it, if not, just treat it as a nice scenic walk.
