We visited this island as part of an excursion and stopped for lunch. The guide recommended buying pearls here. Well, of course, I trusted and bought myself gypsy pearls 😂 you can see in the photo how natural they are) I don’t recommend buying anything here, of course, I looked at the handbag, then I saw the Made in China tag) it’s a scam all around, I was upset of course, and laughed) if you want to buy natural things, buy in In stores, as they say, the greedy pays twice. And another piece of advice, don’t listen to guides, they don’t know everything in this world either.

We were brought there for lunch included to our boat tour to the islands around Phuket. Sunny SeaFood Restaurant (if you can call it restaurant)provided us with meal. After lunch we were given some time to explore the village by ourselves. Front side of the village looks cool, which you can notice even while you are in the boat and from harbor. But don't go further inside the floating village to the side where local peopie live. It's not about Local people, they are absolutely friendly, but mostly don't speak any English. Main concerns are caused by destroyed, and falling apart structures in mix with terrible smell of all kinds of waste, what surely won't make your day the best. If you are in this island somehow, better stay at front side and wait until your bout is leaving. Don’t destroy amazing impressions you are getting during the day by these small sad thing.

This village is a cool place to see - it's amazing knowing that an entire community lives and works in this unique environment. When you step foot onto the floating island, you forget you're floating in the middle of the ocean; it feels as though you're walking on land. They even had a football pitch so the children could practice sports. It's clear that some of the community relies on tourism to support their families, so be prepared to see lots of souvenirs and lots of people trying to catch your attention as you walk by. They also sell a lot of dried fish products so this is a good spot to pick up any fish/seafood related products if you're interested. We ate at New Fern restaurant and the food was delicious!

A must see if you're in the area. A village that is notable by being built on top of stilts by fishermen moved from Indonesia's island Java. Now love there around 1600 people, 360 families descendents of two Muslim families. Remember to dress accordingly.

One of the most characteristic areas of Thailand where you can appreciate the life of the local people, and the particular environment that these mountains give you. James Bond Island is really 10 minutes away by long tail boat. We stayed on the island in a very cheap hotel on stilts where we had a great time. A few cheap restaurants on the island where you eat very well. Some markets still close at 8pm. I recommend sleeping a night here rather than doing the day trip.

I was looking for an authentic experience. The village is pretty much a tourist trap, and when you’re not distracted by the various curios, behind the stands is actually quite a sad state.

The restaurant I went to as well wasn’t great.

I have been to the floating Muslim village 4 times over the past 10 years with various tours. The whole village with an exception of the mosque is built over the water. A main pier runs the length of the village that connects it to the island and smaller piers connect to the main one.

The village has grown substantially over this time and what was once a small fishing village that existed almost entirely on fishing now plays host to the throngs of tourists from all over the world. Tourism now makes up 80 percent of the islands income.

The hordes of tourist boats come and go in a constant procession and with a host of new over the water seafood restaurants one can find it hard to imagine that this village was once a very poor fishing village.

Outside of the restaurants there is not much to see. The markets that cram the crowded walkways are overpriced and cater for the tourist who mainly wants to buy shells, t-shirts, postcards and all the other dust accumulating memorabilia.

When the tide is out you see the garbage underneath the piers in the mud below. If this is not enough to turn you off your crayfish the smell certainly will.

Many tour companies include this place in their package of must see attractions. In my opinion there are far better places to visit in this region.

Part of our wonderful long tail boat trip to James Bond Island. Food was okay. Interesting history and good to support the people on the island. But please tourists please DO NOT encourage the man with the poor gibbon dressed in human clothes. It’s cruel and should be illegal and only exists because tourists encourage it. Have reported to the Gibbon rehab centre in Phuket. These animals are intelligent and shouldn’t be used to entertain people. It was so disturbing watching tourists interact with the poor creature that it tainted our whole impression of the island.

This village was part of a day trip that we had organized to see the James Bond Island and I really could have skipped the whole thing.

You feel like a pack of tourist sheep as you are herded off the long boats with all the other hoards who have probably been suckered into this as well.

The whole experience leaves you cold. The food is awful, it's rationed out (4 plates for a table of 8 people) and drinks cost extra. Half the village is crammed with shops full of cheap t shirts and all manner of tourist junk that is thrust at you as you shamble along in the steaming heat with other sweaty unfortunates.

You feel like you are viewed like a walking wallet ripe for the picking. Everything is overpriced and the locals don't even attempt to hide the fact that they are only interested in taking your money. They circle like smiling sharks and the moment you decline, the friendly veneer disappears to be replaced with cold stares and sneers.

A human zoo. Avoid.

I cannot fathom why this is part of a tour.

The entire village is in a state of squalor and disrepair that can’t even be articulated in this review. Throughout the village, flooring is worn to the point of collapse and/or a few loose boards are placed where flooring wore away or collapsed into the water below. In many places, there are just holes where flooring is simply gone. I can’t imagine that this lack of maintenance and safety isn’t the same for all infrastructure, including water and sanitation. The smells of rot, waste and decay are overwhelming. The fish “areas” with nets out front where the boats dock were torn up and contained far more trash than fish.

This community was absolutely devastated by COVID closures and the resulting lack of tourism, as this is their only income. They need help. Tour companies and hotels need to facilitate and encourage repairs for the safety of the inhabitants (many of whom are elderly or children) as well as the tourists they funnel there. Sending thousands of tourists to a place in such dangerous disrepair and further straining a dilapidated infrastructure is a recipe for serious injury (or worse) to everyone concerned.
