As part of our Northern Thailand journey we came along this loop from Mae Sariang through Mae Hong Son to Pai. Mainly drove along the single road with 1869 curves and no straight. Brilliant drive. One of the best roads I've been on.

We drove this and it was a lot of fun. Great views, windy curvy road. If driving use lots of caution. This would be great on a bike, but I also saw a couple bikes down hitting loose gravel on the curves. we stopped to help a group of four Chinese who hit gravel, they were lucky they didn't go... To be fair, I didn't drive the whole loop but I did several day trips along the loop from Mae Hong Son, which is what I'm basing this review on. The day trips I took went to: - Ban Rak Thai and a Shan village on the way to Ban Rak Thai (on a road to the left when approaching)... More

The place is actually very good. But during mae hong son roads , every loop seems same. 1864 loops :).. So that you can put 1000 loops to your favourites. Cheers Ernur

This loop gives plenty to do and might take multiple days if you would visit all temples and waterfalls. we rented a car to do this loop and stayed in off-track hostels. We skipped Pai and did the Lot Cave instead. Go and stay at that lodge and get yourself a kajak tour, wonderful xperience. from mai hon song we... More

So fun to drive! The roads are really well maintained the whole way. This trip was easily one of the best experiences I have had in Thailand so far

We rented some 125cc yamaha gearfree scooters in Chiangmai and left without knowing where to sleep in advance. We did this loop in 6 days with a 2 day stop in cave lodge and it was amazing to let ourselves be surprised by the landscapes, cities and good roads. Just try to avoid driving on wet roads! Despite the good... More

I've been riding motorbikes in south east Asia for two years, from the extreme north in Vietnam to the Delta, Laos and beyond. I have never experienced a road like this. You get plenty of spectacular mountain roads and views in the other countries but they're often badly surfaced or alarmingly narrow or bizarrely inconsistent. This particular one is engineering... Worth a trip, if you take the time to plan it properly! My friends and I did this on a whim and boy were we unprepared. Nevertheless it was such a memorable experience. Context: we rented a car, not a bike. 1) Recommended to go when it's not the burning season (as per many existing reviews). We went in late... More

Avoid driving there during May/April (burning season). All views were obstracted by smog and haze, the air smelled of fire and naturally we saw some open fires . Chiang Mai drive to Pai:lots of curves, very tiring on a driver, not much thrill for an over 60, driving a four wheel drive. I am sure more thrilling for motorcycle drivers.... More
