Not many people go here which is a shame because it is a wonderful display of the history of mining and life in Phuket. If you are doing a day trip with a private drivernmake sure you visit here and a waterfall nearby. The drive down the mountain is really awesome. There is a small entry charge which I thought... Had a dinner organised here for an extremely large group. I think that they had trouble with coping with the numbers. The service was pleasant but slow. The facilities were average and the food was not bad but there was not enough to serve the tables.

The displays in the museums are disappointing - very limited and old fashioned However the building itself is a nice colonial Sino-Portugese building located in a fairly large green area. It is nice to see the grandeur of this place and would make for a very nice high-end hotel. The road to the mining museum is also quite nice especially... More

Telling the tuk tuk the location of the tin mining museum will get you a look and a long .... pause. Before you commit to the journey, make sure you get the tuk tuk driver to promise to wait for you there because it is in the middle of no where. That is the one and only issue abt the... More

Really a lovely place to visit. The amount of effort put into the displays are magnificent. It's worth a visit.

For me it was very interesting place to visit as I usually like every kind of museum. Mining museum had shown very good hostory of Phuket in the past. I would encourage more friends to go unfortuneately the way to reach there quite complicated and I am sure that many people never know this road. I passed by few times... More

Although situated quite a long way from Patong, we consider that the Mining Museum was well worth a visit. The exhibits were well done and the external area encompassing the previously mined area was also of interest as the sluiced areas were still quite obvious as well as some of the original infrastructure.

I enjoy history, so I enjoyed learning more about the early years of Phuket. I thought the items and scenes were quite well done, but the explanations could be better thought through. I kept thinking, "so, how does it affect the way Phuket is today?" You could actually get through the whole thing quite quicklly.

I did some "serious" research on choosing which museum to visit with my family before the trip. It seems to me that most museums in Phuket are of relatively small scale and old. I picked Mining Museum because the building looks brilliant itself with a large area of grassland. Even the exhibitions are not as good as expected, at least... More

We stumbled across the old museum several years ago (thanks to a Tuk Tuk driver wanting stamps!) we tried to visit 5yrs ago in the new buildings but they were not yet open to the public. We visited this week and enjoyed sharing the experience with our kids. Loads of information in Thai and English about the tin mining, Portuguese... More
