A Living Tree and Plant Open Air Museum
Established back in 1949 and maintained and managed by the Forestry Department of Istanbul University, this arboretum is a living tree and plant open air museum. It's open to public visits only during the week days and entrance during weekends is subject to special permits. There are hundreds or egzotic and endemic plants and trees and flowers. It's best to go there with a botanic expert or buy the book sold at the entrance (unfortunately the book is only in Turkish) in order to really grasp the value of the plants and trees around. The place, covering an area of 731 acres, also hosts the first nursery of Turkey. As there is no place around to buy drinks or food, it's best to bring those with you to the visit as walking around it is quite exhausting. I recommend the place wholeheartedly for those who are interested in nature and trees.
