Site of the heroic siege in in Homer's Iliad, Troy (Truva in Turkish, Ilion in Greek) was excavated in the 1870s by Heinrich Schliemann. He uncovered civilizations dating back 5,000 years, including best-preserved Roman architecture. Explanatory materials at the site are limited, so visitors should bring a good history text or hire a guide.

Before I went there, I expected too much fantasizing the scene from the movie Troy and became disappointed after arriving. Nothing much to see, ruins everywhere, and it's not a big place either. Our guide showed us the entrance way which they said the Trojan...More

It's unfortunate that a large gimmicky horse is the first thing you see at Troy. Beyond that, I loved the history but was disappointed that so little of Troy was able to be seen. Much was ruined during the rediscovery of Troy and not enough...More

Interesting and full of historical significance. An important site to view how centuries of prior civilizations lived. A good visit especially for those interested in history.

If you know the story of Troy. Just stick with that. As impressive as it was to get there, there really isn't much. Some piles of old stones, and remnants of the walls mostly covered by earth and grass. I traveled in 2012 maybe things...More

Self guided tour- recommended. Very well signed. The tour groups seemed to skip over huge parts of Troy. Incredible history and on the cheaper side of the Historic sites. How can you not see "The City of Troy"

According to our local guide the site is left as is and excavation works are no longer being done here. All in all it was disappointing. Letting your imagination free license would have done it more justice the actual physical visit. To add insult, the...More
