I love these Seljuk mosques with the pillared rather than open plan interiors. This one is enormous and impressive. Dusk is a great time to visit

There are several remarkable features of the mosque. Firstly, the columns and arches are like pilastered examples of Early English church architecture. Big imposing mosque, easy to visit. Rare and locally traditional wooden dovetailed roof over the mihrab area. Interesting models inside including a very detailed model of Jerusalem made with earth from the Al Aqsa site according to the label.

This is a nice mosque but if you have seen quite a few (as I have) then it has no real outstanding features. Any mosque is good for contemplation and a quiet retreat from the bustle of the world and this is good for that.

No decoration grey solid walls. Layout reminiscent of mescit in Cordoba. Really lends itself to quiet meditation.

If you are interested in visiting a mosque and have never done so, this one is worth seeing. Not the best in Turkey, but probably the best in Erzurum.
