Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Alsancak is the region where I stay every time I come to Izmir. In my opinion, this coastline is one of the most beautiful places in Izmir. This is a place where you can walk along the sea, ride a bike, or take a tram along the beach. Alsancak is a very beautiful and enjoyable place.

Alsancak is a great little part of Izmir. There is a cute little strip of tavula (backgammon), tea, döner, Efes beer and christmas lights. If you go down towards the water it gets much more expensive, so I would suggest getting a little picnic or something and sitting down on the little brick wall near the water or just sitting around with some of the locals, drink tea and play backgammon.
The entire coast of Turkey is great- but they are all very similar. Alsancak is known for being a little more of a rich area of Izmir however, and has a little more of "the scene" going on. During the day time though, I would suggest just walking around or jumping on the ferry and just going for a spin around the bay area. Talk to local people, they will be curious to know you, especially if you are American or white (or have colored eyes and blonde or red hair). I would say that has been my favorite part of Turkey - the people.

Catch a ferry from Alsancak via Pasaport and then to Bostanli and back to Alsancak. If you catch the outward ferry about 30 mins before sunset, it is a grat cruise. Then catch the ferry back to Alsancak after sunset and see the city lit up. You can get a ticket from the ferry office for 5TL each that will get you the whole way. A cheap and enjoyable sunset cruise.

A century ago, İzmir was declared as" the eastern city of europe and western city of asia" Alsancak was once the living area of europeans during 17th-18th-19th centuries and commerce port for Anatolia. The cruise port is within the district, just take a street from Kordon seaside, hundreds of beer-wine houses and restaurants and special music bars for live jazz-rock-blues,At Sardunya or Sardunya's or Hayalbaz you can find pure jazz and even Experimental Thursday evenings.Live music starts as early as sunset till midnight.Pastas for a few euros, main meat dish under 10,beer and wine are cheap-even from the international selection menu,Have a nice night......

I have found the town very dirty, and very crowded it was very hard to walk in Kibris Sehitleri street, you can find many restaurants and shops around but it was not a really good experience for me.

It is heart of the city. Located at the sea side and has grass coastline where all people (specially young people) are. If you are in this city this mandatory for you to have some drinks and sit on the grass and enjoy time..

Alsancak is a large district with different areas for different purposes. For a nice walk by the sea and to enjoy high class fish restaurants, visit "Kordon Boyu". For affordable food options, ordinary shops and pubs/bars/cafes visit the "Kibris Sehitleri Caddesi" and small streets crossing this. For middle class food and drink and more luxurious shops, explore the "Gul Sokak" part (area between Plevne Bulvari and 1382 Sokak).

We visited Alcancak to do some family history research. The people we met were very friendly and wanted to help. it is a good area to get a doner kebab!! We took the city Bus Tour from the port. This tour takes about an hour and you pass though all the places that you might like to go back and visit. Unfortunately our headphones did not work, so we missed out on the guide's information as we passsed places of interest. However, we still felt it was worth taking the tour as we had limited time in Izmir.

This is a very nice area that includes where the cruise ships come in. It also has lots of high end shopping and an endless supply of restaurants and things to see.
There is also a very nice park where you can cycle, run on a track, relax and people watch, whatever you prefer in a park setting.

Traveling from Chios Greece, can I get a ferry to Izmir? Or flight. Or do I need to go through Istanbul ???
Written 22 February 2020
The Chios ferries depart from Cesme and vv. Cesme is 70 km from Izmir by car. You can rent a car and go to Izmir but there are also buses from Cesme bus terminal to Uckuyular, Izmir.

Is the neighborhood safe enough? What we should be aware of?
Written 22 December 2017
Alsancak is very safe. Dont worry about anything but the hotels are not clean enough to stay
Written 10 February 2018
you can check with the hotel you are staying at. Most 4/5 star hotels have it as per standard.
