The Sema is performed all over Turkey but if you are intersted in Sufism then this is the place to see it performed

Worth seeing
Oct 2020
Great show if you've never seen the Sema before. But the large venue (mainly empty due to lack of tourism right now) makes it feel less authentic.

hard to explain
Dec 2019 • Couples
it is just hard to explain this experience. it remains a feeling of peace and calmness in one's mind. the ceremony held in culture center is big and special. but the small sema meetings held in different places around the city are more folksy and enjoyable.

Beautifully bizarre
Dec 2019 • Solo
Changed my trip around to be in Konya on a Saturday and I’m glad I did. It’s not spectacular entertainment but it’s certainly bizarre and well worth its iconic UNESCO heritage status. The cultural centre theatre itself is a great setting and doors to the sema open at 6.30pm although you’re almost certain to get seats regardless of arrival time. Tickets are 15TRY for adults and 10 for students.

A Worthwhile Cultural Experience
Oct 2019 • Couples
This is NOT a tourist oriented dance and dinner show! This is a cultural experience rooted in ancient religious tradition. The Mevlana Whirling Dervishes are worth your time if you find yourself in Konya. The cultural center is a bit “Soviet-esque,” but the seating allows for maximum viewing no matter where you are at. The audio recording of an English description of the ceremony played at the beginning is hard to understand, but if you pay close attention you can grasp the meaning behind the ceremony. The musical intro is long, but if you can make it through that...the dancing is fascinating and almost relaxing to observe. Colored lighting highlights different parts of the ceremony and is quite well done. Probably too serious for young children, but that didn’t deter the locals. Total time is an hour plus with no intermission.

Mevlana Whirling Dervishes

Worth going if you happen to be in town to see this on a Saturday evening. Close to the museum easy to get seats. WE were charged 15TL per ticket. . Starts slowly but when the whirling starts it is amazing to see them. They even had young children performing on the day. The show lasted an hour.

Worth going
Sep 2019
This is a beautiful ceremony. The colored lighting and immense arena give it an interesting twist (if you'd rather see an identical but smaller, non-flashy Sema, go to Irfa center right next door). The musicianship is fantastic. Keep in mind these Sema formats are very specific to the Turkish Mevlevi Sufi sect, and as such are done in a very strict and premeditated way. You won't see extended ecstatic whirling, as the dance is divided into four parts to represent four stages of a spiritual journey. Reading some of the other comments left here, it seems that some folks were unaware of this when they attended. This Sema is heavily structured and symbolic, not wild and improvised, but it is very much a spiritual ceremony nonetheless. It's not a show.

Marvelous Whirling Dervishes Ceremony
Aug 2019
One must see the whirling dervishes ceremony (also called Semazen) at the Mevlana Cultural Center. The show takes place on each Saturday evening, entry is free, a mystic journey is guaranteed. In the basement of the Center you'll find several booths with literature, arts, crafts and gifts.
