Crossing the bridge high above Zagnos Park, you will come to Ortahisar. Here I am referring to the quarter of Trabzon with relatively old houses, narrow streets, Ortahisar = Fatih mosque and the park between the mosque and Sultan Süleyman‘s (i.e. the Kanuni‘s) House. Süleyman the Magnificent was born in Trabzon!!! The house that bears his name is a house of encounter now. Its Ottoman architecture is rather pretty, but the neighbouring konak is even more stately. I enjoyed watching the visitors to the little park who were sitting there early in the morning. They were talking to neighbours just like in a village in the countryside. If you want to visit the mosque, you should inform yourself about its opening hours. I had to come a second time in the afternoon because it was closed in the morning. The toilets there could not be used because they were being repaired.

There is nothing special about this little park. Don't get me wrong, it is peaceful little place but it certainly isn't a "thing to do" so much as a place to sit and relax when you are tired of doing things.

From the main square Meydan just take a 15 minutes walk threw the bustling narrow shopping street called Uzun Sokak, or by dolmuş in which is just needed to ask the driver whether he passes threw Ortahisar, or nearby.
Place with narrow turkish streets, houses, fortress, mosques and restaurants with domestic cuisine. And cats are everywhere.

So ancient & unbelieving. Entrance to Citadel well worth a visit. Lots of steps inside & outside but views are breathtaking/amazing all the way up.
