About
Located on the Akdamar Island in Lake Van, this Cathedral is significant because it is the only surviving medieval Armenian church in which most of the wall paintings are still intact.

Please check carefully the facades. You could find the figures of four apostles on four facades. There are a small cafe under the almond trees. You could find a small gift shop on the island.

Stunning and def worth a visit. The island is beautiful at this time of year with the blossoms out but snow still on the hills. The church is lovely with remnants of wall paintings inside and fabulous reliefs on the outside.

Terrific island location, facing the nearest shore and, with astonishingly undestroyed exterior relief sculptures and still viewable interior frescoes!

This monastery was built between the 8th and 9th century. The frescoes on the outside have survived the weather. They tell the stories of the bible.
