About
The Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (Entebbe Zoo) is located 15 minutes from Entebbe International Airport, 36 kilometers from Uganda's capital Kampala. The centre cares for rescued animals, often victims of bush meat trade, habitat destruction, or illegal trade. Individuals that can make it in the wild, are released back. We don't buy animals nor use them for entertainment, but rather as ambassadors to help save and maintain those in the wild, wild! Listen to interpretative talks from our; keepers, guides work with animals every day. You can sign up as an animal surrogate mother for a day, participate in behind the scene experiences or simply spend a night in our hostel or African cottages as you await your flight or meeting! Our facility is ideal for both short and long stay/ visits, whilst in Uganda. Secure day and night parking available or quick access to public transport/ taxi is just a call away. We are always thrilled to receive your at UWEC Zoo, Entebbe.

Not a normal “zoo”. Conservation and Sustainability at the heart of what they do!
These guys care about the work they are doing - the animals are rehabs and rescues mostly - our guide Emmanuel was fantastic - very informative and friendly. Can’t wait for the Charli the elephant to meet her new friend! Chimps were one of our favourite parts especially getting the opportunity to feed.
Thank you for appreciating the level of sustainability at UWEC & our contribution to conservation.

    Very nice experience in Entebbe!
Today we visited the wildlife center in Entebbe. We did a 'behind the scenes' tour and we were guided by Geofrey. Geofrey knew a lot about the animals. It's unbelievable how much knowledge this man has. We've learned a lot. We were able to get up close to the lions, giraffes and rhino, among other things, because we did the special tour. We were even allowed to feed most of the animals! This is not a 'normal' zoo. Injured animals are cared for here and many animals are eventually returned to nature. Some cages are still a bit small, but they are working hard on that. If you stay in Entebbe, a visit to this wildlife center is highly recommended!

A pleasant layover visit with Lake Victoria shoreline meal
We had an 8 hour layover in Entebbe and did not want to hang around in the airport so got an East Africa Tourist visa so we could leave and continue on to Rwanda that day covering both countries immigration requirements, and found a tour operator company that kept all our luggage (no checkin before 3 hours prior to departure, and had a driver take us to the Entebbe Zoo, where we had a lovely veggie burger, house made, served on Lake Victoria in the restaurant in the zoo. We enjoyed our meal immensely over airport food, saw some odd birds awaiting us feeding them—we didn’t. And relaxed, then saw the entire zoo in 90 minutes. The whole thing took about 4 hours, felt very relaxing and we returned to the airport to await checkin in plenty of time.

    Chimpanzee close up!
Such an amazing experience at UWEC zoo doing the chimpanzee close up. It’s honestly one of the most amazing experiences you will ever do and give you the chance to meet the chimpanzees face to face and also help with their care. It’s worth every penny and before we return home from Uganda we will be doing it again. Also a special thanks to all the staff for being so kind and making our whole experience perfect.

We had a fantastic visit when traveling with colleagues for work meetings in Entebbe.
Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and able to explain the conservation education work with all of the animals.
I recommend taking a guide for full interpretation of the center.
UWEC is accredited by WAZA, the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

Please support this centre, great people doing great things for wildlife.
The chimpanzee close up and VIP program is fantastic, as a zoo keeper myself who cares for many rehabilitated animals in Australia, this program is giving the chimpanzees and all of the other animals in their centre the highest standard of care and rehabilitation.
Their husbandry, behaviour management and animal health needs are all meet and exceed the positive animal welfare guidelines.
If you are able to visit this conservation education center your contribution will support and enrich all of the lives of the animals in this facility.
