Our family spent a lovely and quiet afternoon strolling through this quaint UNESCO historical sight. It is a beautiful place to visit via fast ferry from Buenos Aires and easy to arrange - just be sure to reserve you ferry tickets in advance and get to the ferry with extra time for customs in two countries. It is an interesting... More

People rave about Colonia del Sacramento. Coming from 5 days in Buenos Aires, I was a little let down. The town is small and, although cute, it's not amazing. Yes, the buildings are historic and mostly well-kept. Many of them are occupied by mediocre tourist stores. It's a cute place to wander around for a few hours, but I'm not... More

The gates lead into the lower part of the Old City. Even though they look ancent they were actually rebuilt in 1968.

We had one day and night here and it was great. We both took SO many photos as each corner was a different delightful scene as we walked through the area. The old town is not very big so one day is definitele enough. We came over on Buquebus early in the morning and caught a bus to Montevideo the... More

We toured the small area under the hot sun and it was fun, but I recommend coming again at night. Everything looks different when there are no day tourists around, all the shops are closed, and everything is quiet, save maybe some live music from a bar nearby. When I visited, it was a clear night with brilliant stars and... More

It's a nice place to check out. Beware the heat in colonia. It was about 90 degrees Fahrenheit walking around at about 4pm. Other than that there are few attractions in Colonia. It's worth a trip if you like old historical buildings.

This place is adorable. So rustic, so simple and beautiful. The streets are charming and they are cozy. The restaurants and bars are also very enchanting.

We took the Buquebus from Buenos Aires to Colonia. The fast ferry took a little over an hour. The historic quarter is small. It did not take us that long to walk around. Due to the limited time we had, we walked the area in a little over an hour. Just print a map before you leave and you cannot... More

Ruins in Colonia del Sacramento are not gigantic as Great Wall or Teotihuacan but they have their own beauty. Walking along the street and admire flowers and beautiful architecture. Best part is that your admission is free!

A walk through the barrio historico is truly a feast for the eyes with most of it’s streets lined on both sides with incredible plane trees that release a typical smell .The architecture is largely inspired by both spanish and portuguese influences and most of the time well preserved and there is a playful and joyful atmosphere that permeates the...
