Beautiful area. You do not need more than an hour and half to visit the whole thing. Good restaurants.

This gate was how everyone entered and exited the old Portuguese Fort called La Colonia del Sacramento. The walls and gate kept out the local natives, the Charruas.

There are only a few stones from the old door, it has been restored, but it shows yoy how it was in colonnial times.

Great for history buffs, scenic area with a great old draw bridge. An old stone fort a real part of the cities history near the river easy to find you should stop by.

In olden ties it is the only gate to enter the city via the wooden drawbridge. The gate was reconstructed but part of te old walls was original. It is right in the centre of the old town. Interesting but spend less than 1 hour...More
