Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had imagined a quiet trip through the forest - but that wasn't the case. There are loud noises coming from floating loudspeakers everywhere, and the whole body of water is overpopulated with hundreds of boats. The Asians seem to like that. I think you can safely do without it.

This was seriously one of the best experiences I've had in Hoi An! The coconut boat ride was an absolute blast, and our instructor was so awesome, always making sure we got the best photos with the coconut trees. We headed out around 4 pm, so it wasn't too hot, and we got to enjoy the stunning sunset on our way back. I highly recommend it!

Instead of joining tours which are charging way to much, you can just grab a cab where pretty much every household living there provide the one hour coconut tour. Depend on your bargaining skills each boat (fits two person) goes at about 200,000-300,000VDN per boat. After the tour you can then request for the locals to book a cab for you to return back.

Go (with an open mind) if you have time to kill in Hoi An, but it's not a must-have.
The boat ride spends less time serenely paddling through palm mangroves and more time watching dance performances on floating platforms and in other boats on the water. There are somehow massive speakers wired into the mangroves that periodically blast out Gangnam Style at full volume.
Note you also have to pay an entrance fee to enter the village, over and above the cost of the boat ride. At the time of visiting, the road to the south & parallel to the main coconut village road, was not charging an entrance fee and boat rides were the same price.
We cycled there from Hoi An in under an hour. We also tried cycling around the area but sadly failed to find any idyllic vistas of mangroves or bucolic countryside.

We went here as a group (9 people) for a basket boat tour and food, The group included people from 8-68. It was fantastic and everyone had a great time. The basket boat tour had a bit of everything: hand made jewelry and head pieces made from coconut leaves, crab fishing, paddling (if you wanted to), men showing what they could do with the boats, songs etc. Then we had delicious food at the restaurant. Ask for the squid, it is amazing. We have been in Hoi An for 6 weeks now and this is a highlight, I am so glad we met Trang and Vinh who made everything so easy. We are going back to do the bicycle and cooking tour asap. We will do the boat tour again when other friends come. It is worth just going for the food and the view from the restaurant. Great prices. You can plan your own tour (from Da Nang or Hoi An) or go for a package. Don't forget the squid (even if you don't like squid, you will like this)!!!

Hi there,
We spent 4 days in Hoi An and on our last day we decided to rent a motorbike and visit this place.
We took a boat with a local tour operator (eco something). The tour operator was good, unfortunately the place is a crazy tourist trap completely ruined by management.
All eastern tourists where going in massive groups with super loud music (gangnam style music type)with local guides dancing in those boats at 8-9 am for tips.
There is a nice sign saying that music or any loud device is forbidden, but apparently the guides don t care about that.
Funny enough the same sign states that you should not touch the coconut plants even though all those eastern tourist were getting of the boat and taking selfies with those trees destroying a good amount of leaves in order to get in the perfect spot.
We had to ask our guide on the boat to bring us back after 30 mins as we had enough.
Very bad experience, much better just enjoying the beach or the town.

It's quite far to ride bicycle from Hoi An Ancient town to this area (45-ish minutes). So it's better just to take a taxi or moped in my opinion. It's very interesting to ride the basket boat through the coconut forest. But the disco music for group tour is way too loud. I hated it. It will be much much better if there is no music or loud cheering and we can enjoy the basket ride peacefully. You don't need a tour to get here. Just get a taxi/moped to this location and pay 150K per boat for 2 people.

We were lucky to go out with an older oarsman who entertained us with singing; pointed out places for photos; showed us how local people catch crabs in the water coconut groves; and generally communicated (without any common language between us) that he enjoys his job and likes meeting visitors. He was one of the nicest people we met in Hoi An (and we were lucky to meet friendly people everywhere). The place is an easy motor scooter ride from Hoi An; tour groups also go there in buses, but if at all possible, you want to be there when tour groups are not.

We really enjoyed riding a bamboo basket boat!
The fee was expensive than I had expected. We paid 400000VND per person 1hour.
At first I thought that’s a lipoff...
But It was actually a lot more fun than I expected. We were fully satisfied.
They entertained us very much.
They knows how to show tourists a good time.

We decided to take the free hotel bicycles to ride the 6km or so out to the coconut forest. Once you get close you will see there are lots of places on the water offering coracle rides. We got hassled by a few people but picked one place which looks ok and negotiated 150k for a family of 3. The ride was fun with a crabbing line for my daughter and the oarsman was good at spotting crabs so we caught a few. Along the waterways, it was largely very peaceful. Some reviews mention loud music and we did hear some very loud music - why do people think this is even remotely acceptable? However, we were far enough way most of the time that it didn't really bother us. I guess it depends on the operator you use and the route you take.
