Short visit

Close to the flag pole and the maritime museum. there is free parking, although Sherif Hussain house is not open, but you can talk to some people giving you some brochures.

This is the castle but I find the outside better than inside. After a quick visit here, you go down to the big flag and still in the same small street you will find the entrance of the museum, witch is very nice and gives you a good idee of Jordan during the years before!!! Absolute to do!

There is not much thing to visit in Aqaba. That is the least. Unfortunaely, the castle and the museum near that huge flag are closed and it seem to be for a long time....

The entrance is quite grand and worth walking past. From the vantage point by the road, it looks like the rest of the castle is mostly a pile of rubble, so I'm not sure how interesting entering it would be.

Unfortunately I couldn't get inside because the castle is being rebuilt from the damage sustained during World War 1, which is great! The 100th Anniversary of the Great Arab Revolt is on now so much work is being done to prepare for anniversary celebrations. The fort was taken by the Arab Army in July 1917, with the famous Lawrence of... More

If you want to visit Aqaba Castle you're not lucky. At the moment it is under construction and you can't visit it. So first inform If the Castle is ready to have visitors before you go there. Also the museum next door is closed.

While others are heading to the South Coast on the busy King Hussein Bin Talal street, you can step back in time wandering about the partially rebuilt Aqaba Castle. You can also climb up to the second floor of the castle but watch out, especially if you are with kids - there are no security handrails so it is easy... More
