    Rare peak into an established Teahouse
    Wonderful evening with Lady Baba and two Geisha. Our family, which includes a young adult child (performance is best for guests 21yrs+ Sake is served), enjoyed the singing, dancing, music and explanations that provide cultural awareness and context. Highly recommend. 90 minutes. Upgraded seats were worth it to have a backrest!
    Thank you so much for attending Geisha Evenings in Kanazawa. We are all pleased to know you enjoyed the performance and Lady Baba's explanatory on the Geisha culture. [Aya - Geisha Evenings Project Office]

    Very informative and entertaining show in Kanazawa!
    This 90 minute show was very informative of the history of Kanazawa and Geisha traditions. The show is engaging, so time flew by. The cadence and delivery was the right speed and amount of information for my foreigner mind to wrap around. The presentation was very interactive and I would return to come see the show again! Just some insight for people reading reviews planning their trip: Step 1: book this show, it's worth it. * If you are tall or plus sized, book yourself in the 3rd row. Your legs and tail bone will thank you. * Eat something before hand. Most shops/restaurants will be closed by the time you get out. * Don't lie to Lady Baba, she knows all.
    We are glad you had a good time watching the Geisha performance and Lady Baba providing information about the Kanazawa Geisha. Thank you also for providing future guests with tips! We would love it if you could come back again! [Aya - Geisha Evenings Project Office]

Vale la pena sin duda. Una experiencia auténtica y única. Lady Baba es encantadora y aprendimos mucho sobre la cultura Geisha.
Definitely worth it. It was a unique and very authentic experience. Lady Baba shares stories with a lot of humour and charisma, we learnt a lot about the Geisha culture.

My experience is layered:

Lady Baba: spectacular, charming, entertaining... giving a glimpse what lucky customers can get from a geisha

Her Maico-s - OK, doing their stuff, interesting

Macha tea experience - all the charm of ordering an omelette at a fast food joint - the girls went quickly through the motions, not even hiding boredom and desire to get it over with ( not even comparable to the great experiences I had in ryokans in Kyoto as well as in Kanazawa )

... and then about half of the time spent in dragging unwilling audience to participate in a simple game...
Explaining the game - great;
doing with one audience member - fine;
doing with another - OK... we got it...
... repeating with another three - can be explained only as killing time...

I am sure Lady Baba has more than enough experience and anecdotes to fill two hours without stretching the time with repeated game playing.

overall: a great hour... and a boring one...

I loved everything about Japan before I went to this depressing show. I thought I would witness the quintessence of Japanese culture, I believed that a geisha was the guardian of an ancient and noble tradition, but I only saw the cheap self-celebration of a lady whose counterpart can be found in any western television show. Sad...very sad.
The show would gain a lot if the said lady was removed from the stage.

This informative and entertaining is a good way to learn more about geishas and their role in Japan. Both by educating speeches of lady Baba and demonstrations of her geisha’s you get to understand it way better, and if you’re lucky or ballsy you can even join in. Go & enjoy!
