Really unusual. Steam-punk robots Japanese style.

If you like puzzels or magic tricks, it's a museum you will love. Our 15 yrs old daughter doesn't like to stay in museums for more than 30 mins but she was the last one to come outside after 1.5 hrs. It's a bit far from other tourist attractions (by taxi JPY 1,500 from the Kanazawa station) but we combined... More

We were at Kanazawa and my husband wanted to see the sea of Japan. And so we took a drive and came across Kanazawa Port Ono Karakuri Museum and it was such an awesome and unforgettable experience for us. Firstly, the museum is unqiue and a wooden building. We enjoy interesting and unique architecture and buildings. And this building is... More

A little-known gem in Kanazawa. It's a little far from the other tourist destinations. Bus #63 (leaves from Roku-Mae bus stop, a 5 minute walk from Kanazawa JR Station) goes to Ono Port which is where the museum is situated. I found this museum incredibly charming, it was wonderful to see the handcrafted wooden toys from decades and centuries ago,... More

Karakui Museum is awesome. It's unlike anywhere else I've visited. It is home to lots of old wooden puppets/robots which are beautifully built. It also has lots of quirky games and features, like a giant sudoku board and furniture with hidden compartments that you have to try and open. We spent an hour on the sudoku board alone so, value... This is definiately one of the stranger museums we have visited in Japan. It is primarily dedicated to nineteenth century clockwork automata; wooden proto-robots that we're created for amusement and amazement. They have a small collection of these extraordinary objects - tea serving 'robots', wind up crayfish - alongside wooden toys and puzzles, many of which you can play with.... More
