    Matsumoto Art Museum
This art museum is about 15min walking distance from the train station. The main exhibition is about Yayoi Kusuma art which is very vibrant. But here are also small galleries about less known artists. Make sure you plan enough time for your visit so you can enjoy the the museum to the fullest.

    Superb!
Amazing, I love Yayoi Kusama and dreaming to get one of those LV YK collab bag, she's a genius! Go to Nagano-ken, to Matsumoto and see the genius' work. The food there is amazing, the sorrounding area is teeming with activities and would to go again and again and I've been there several times. Visit the hot-spring to rest your tired body.

    Must-visit in Matsumoto!
This is a fabulous museum. We loved the large and diverse Kusama exhibition, as well as the calligraphy and other collections. The gift shop was also great. Tickets are very reasonably priced and staff are extremely friendly. It was extremely quiet during our visit on a weekday afternoon. We would highly recommend a visit to anyone coming to Matsumoto.

There is also an object by Yayoi Kusama on display at the entrance, and it is crowded with many tourists.
Inside, there is a permanent exhibition area, a shop, a cafe, etc., so you can spend some time there.
It is located about a 15-minute walk from Matsumoto Station, making it a convenient location for sightseeing.

It is within walking distance from JR Matsumoto Station. It would be a shame to leave just with the object in front of the entrance. The third floor is Kusama's permanent exhibition.
There are not many works, but they are all wonderful. It was my first time to see an exhibition using mirrors. The light from a single chandelier continues endlessly, and it is fantastic and wonderful... You can enjoy the world of Kusama to the fullest, with the endless ladder to heaven and the large pumpkin object.
Also, her writings printed all over the wall are very moving.

I'm sure Yayoi Kusama fans will scold me, but as an outsider, I can't help but think that they're trying to stand out in a bad way.
If this were the Yayoi Kusama Museum, it would be fine. No matter how much of a local artist she is, I think the name Matsumoto City Museum of Art is a bit of a stretch, but I guess it's none of my business as an outsider.
I had to chuckle wryly when I saw that even the trash cans were polka dots.
If they were going to be so thorough, I would have wanted polka dot canned coffee or juice.
Of course, I apologize for only enjoying the outside tour.
I have no intention of disparaging Yayoi Kusama or the city of Matsumoto.
If they were going to celebrate Yayoi Kusama's achievements, I wish they had found a different way.
As I've said many times before, it's none of my business as an outsider.

We really felt our time here was well spent. We went primarily for the Yayoi Kasuma installation but spent time in all the exhibits. The YK experience far outshines the new YK Museum in Tokyo by light years. While the new Tokyo Museum is underwhelming and not particularly visitor friendly (understatement), the YK installation in Matsumoto is just fantastic. The museum itself is beautifully designed - even the staircases are sophisticated, beautifully designed and user friendly. (Yes, there ae elevators.) We enjoyed our time here immensely and recommend Centime French restaurant just outside toward the rear of the Museum for a perfect day.

Yayoi Kusama is famous for her "dots". The museum had closed when we arrived, so we just took some photos in the garden. It was interesting to see the lovely flowers and butterfly, and made me remember my child-wood in kindergarten. Would love to go inside next time.
