Tell someone in Japan that you are going to Atami and they will be surprised. It has been a rather seedy getaway for Tokyoites for many decades. A very unique place to add to my week-long solo vacation in Japan. While it was difficult to get around without great Japanese skills, I found my way to an onsen resort and spent the day there. it's considered near frm Tokyo city, filled of onsen hotels so if you wants to go to seaside or want to enjoy onsen viewing seaside, this is a good place to go but for those lookin for sightseeing, u will need to combine a trip with other towns in Izu such as Ito & Shimoda
