This is a relatively small statue on road next to the beach in Atami and is a "must see" for all Japanese, many of whom will have read the associated book written at the end of the nineteenth century. Kanichi and Omiya are the personages that appear in a famous novel named "Konjiki Yasha". This statue is a memory of that tragedy, but now few Japanese exactly knows that story.

Our beach hotel was near here so we dopped off here to go home. The story though is ghastly, a guy kicking a girl for cheating him, gross...

Is according to comic book story. Atami at first famous of their owm onsen. However, after this story blow up big impact im newspaper for continuous of 5 1/2 years, Atami have become more famous and well-known.

I highly recommend this ocean front walkway that will bring you to this famous statue. The story is on a placard in English so we were able to read about the woman 'blinded by diamonds' and the well loved author who is seen kicking her away as she tries to repent her wrong doing. There is a nice beach nearby... More
