I actually did not want to spend my time in this quaint town to be in a museum gallery for a few hours. During previous visits I did not see this museum. This trip I decided to try out Ohara Art Museum. I was in for a nice surprise with a great presentation of master works, a mix of galleries,... More

We were feeling a little weary so this was a nice afternoon visit. They have one Monet, two Picasso's and two Renoir's. Amazing in a small place like Kurashiki. The Japanese art section was well worth a visit. Lovely shop attached.

I was in Kurashiki to enjoy the old town area, and spontaneously decided to visit the museum. I was actually inspired by the museum shop, which offers a very nice selection of art souvenirs. Little did I know, that the museum holds a very impressive collection of works from some of art history's biggest masters. Monet, Manet, Renoir, Matisse, Gaugain,... More

I almost passed up this museum, because I figured I'm not in Japan to see Western Art. But I went and am glad I did. Admission is on the high side compared to other museums I visited, and no discount was offered even though one of the museum's four components was closed. (To the staff's credit, they did explain that... More

Actually 4 museums in one, plus a lovely Japanese garden, all for one admission. It's almost too much to see in one visit! Wonderful art, pottery, Chinese art, and a small, but well laid out garden.

The Ohara museum is well worth a visit when in Kurashiki. It is a surprise and the collection is very interesting - even a Monet! The Japanese art in the Annex is well worth a look.

There was such an extremely good choice of different art to see we saw impressionists painting..by monet, manet and Rousseau, van gogh plus many more and Henry moore sculpture. Also saw wood block painting which we now appreciate having done the course and how time consuming and complicated.

Fantastic museum created by Ohara Magosaburo who never went to Europe himself. Instead he commissioned Kojima Torajiro, a young painter who studied there to select and acquire works for the collection. The museum opened in 1930. Ohara's son contributed to his father's work and nowadays, the great collection is housed in four different buildings. The highlights of the collection of... More

Very good at contemporary art, especially for the period of French Impressionism. Very much like a sample course than having a lot of collections of a particular artist. But overall the collection is impressive. It has an annex and a separate section on Asian art. Pretty good and enjoyable. Do also enjoy it's garden. Don't miss this museum while you're... More
