I visited Matsue this June, which is said to be part of the best season thereof for seeing around. The town itself was good, having the tranquil atmosphere of its own. Twilight hours at the riverbed or lakeside would prove to be "once-in-a-lifetime" experience for anybody, I believe.

I am always amazed by the old architecture of ancient japan and how it survived for hundreds of years. Who wants to get a view on this architecture needs to pay this town a visit whilst in the area.

Matsue is a look in Japan's past, and like Kyoto and Kanazawa, is one of the few places that maintains a strong wagashi (traditional confectionery) culture with its tea ceremony culture. Also home to one of the few remaining original castles, and the whole town has interesting spots associated with its castle town use, or places Lafcadio Hearn visited and... More

There are many things to see and do in the castle area walkway, including bridges and moats, museums (the Tanabe Art Museum), the Meimei-an historic tea house and samurai residence (buke yashiki)
