This market is where locals buy their fresh seafood and the range of fish, crabs and shellfish is amazing. It is also a great spot for tourists to have a unique style of lunch. You can buy a bowl of fresh hot rice and miso soup then go to the seafood stalls and choose from a large selection of sashimi... More

Definitely recommended for seafood lovers. Very fresh and tasty. I had the best sashimi I ever tasted in Japan here.

There's lots to see here, plenty of fish, squids, unique fresh seafood. My kids had fun walking and browsing, even though they were not keen on having the sashimi. There's one or two stalls by the side selling Hokkaido biscuits and sweets, worth a look as the prices were cheaper than the major shopping malls and tourists sites.

Holland provided free shuttle service to this amazing market. Fresh fish as well as packaged fish and lots of other goodies. Great place for fresh fish.

Washo market will satisfy the foodie shopaholic in you, with the freedom to choose any topping you want on your preferred size of rice bowl. The prices are reasonable for the quality you get. The otoro I had was absolutely divine. After a bowl of katte-don, I was able to indulge in a pack of precut cantaloupe that was the... More

I was told about this market and the Katte Don. So I did not miss my chance to go there and experience the whole thing. Katte Don consists of a bowl of rice (purchased near the rear entrance) and sashimi layed over (pay by the unit) at the fresh seafood counters; you are in charge of making your own composition.... Kushiro Washo Fish Market is located near JR Kushiro Station. It should be easy to find it on foot. We drove to the market and used its underground parking which had no gate control (free!). It's filled with seafood venders. Some are more into fish and others are for seaweeds (mostly dried kelp or konbu). Some fish venders offer quick... More

Decided to drive 80 km from Lake Mashu to this market for lunch. An absolutely clean and smell free fish market. Inexpensive to select and eat our favourite toro, akagai, sea urchins and huge crabs and also to try others eg whelk, whale, etc. Definitely a must for sashimi lovers.
