You can find everything in this fish market: restaurant, food courts, groceries, fish, shops, ... There is a stall in the market for squid fishing and cut it up for sashimi. This is a must do thing. Squid sashimi was very fresh. There are different shops as well: shoes, clothing, ... This market is highly recommended.

More market.

If you have got off the bus and gone through the morning market and got this far you will be familiar with what is going on. It seems there are three markets all joined together and all doing much the same thing.

Hakodate Asaichi ( Morning Market )
Oct 2017 • Solo
Went there with tour group after breakfast.
There are many stores selling similar things like dried seafood. Make sure you go around comparing prices first. Bought dried scallops which was originally ¥1,3000 reduced to ¥9,000
Those ready to eat packet scallops 500g can be bought at ¥2,250 which was originally ¥3,500
So go around the market first and not to make purchases out of impulse 😊

All under one roof - seafood and veg and fruits, & stuff
Jul 2017 • Couples
It was ok, 'all the stalls you see outside the morning market' are conveniently under one roof - i.e., they all sell the same thing, just 'cleaner', some a/c, a bit of everything for customers and tourists if the weather outside goes south like heavy rain or heavy snow.

More exciting outside!

Scallops are cheaper
Nov 2016 • Family
We bought dried scallops and this is by far is the cheapest compared to the markets in Osaka and Sapporo. That is because we bought from an old man, his shop is not big, there are many big ones selling fresh seafood with huge crabs. His is facing a place where there are many stalls in a one-storey building. Even gave us some marinated ready-to-eat scallops for our girl that is worth some yens. Very kind indeed.

Must go in Hakodate
Dec 2015
We decided to travel down to Hakodate for this famous seafood that everyone is talking about. Noted there were squid catching and live sashimi. We stayed at a hotel situated right there at the market and within 5 mins from JR Hakodate. There are many stalls selling similar items such as different type of crabs, squids, fruits, Umi, scallops, fresh seafood. Some stalls, grill or boil the seafood after you choose it. At the back, there is a shop that grills squid fresh and shred it rightaway. Seems fresh and we bought a few packs of squid there. Interesting place to watch the crab crawl and wriggle around. Had breakfast in one of the 'seafood bowl alley'. It's hard to choose as all shops sell similar items and similar prices. Some shops have 2 different sizes for their seafood bowl.

Great market place to feast on our senses
Oct 2015 • Friends
We came to this market when it was blowing strong winds and raining. We took shelter in the indoor market.

We found that there are lots to see and eat: Amazing range of sea food (including live squids and huge crabs), cooked food, diary produce (including fresh milk), fruits (including the famous melon which they sell in cut pieces that you can try) and other produce.

Tried their fresh milk (was told it is a must), it is fresh. Remember to return the bottle. Japanese are into recycling.

There is a black bun (what I though was a black squid ink black coloured bun). I did not try but you can.

Must go!
