This site is great for families. The day we were there it was very busy. Apparently the aquarium consists of several large tanks and the walkway spirals around the tanks. The top was very busy but the crowds seemed to thin out as we went along. Great for kids. At the end there is a spot for touching some fish.

We as adults, aquarium and zoo are something like "ohh poor animals in these small cages..." but for kids they are just a fantastic place to explore live animals. Otaru Aquarium was great as well. Dolphin and Sea lion shows were well worth watching. I can see the aquarium is putting lots of effort to keep the place interesting. We... More

My friend wanted to go to the aquarium so we went to visit. It was suprisingly interesting with the various aquatic life from the Hokkaido seas on display. The animal shows were fun: the seal feeding, dolphin show, and penguin walk. The light house is nearby and there is a good view of the Otaru seaside between the aquarium and... More

Otaru in Hokkaido ,Japan was below zero in winter but we braved the weather to go to Otaru Aquarium. Easily accessible by train from Sapporo & by bus from the bus station, we arrived at the aquarium by the edge of the sea. A relatively small Aquarium but it had interesting specimens. Apart from the fishes and other water exhibits,... More

Using the bus day trip ticket (700yen) you can get a discount on the entrance rates. For 900yen (adult) this place was quite worth the value to spend the morning! Shows start in the morning from seal feeding (1045am) to dolphin and seal show (11am) to penguin walk (1130am). There's a pelican walk in the afternoon (1 or 3pm)but we... More

The aquarium is small but the main attraction is the penguin parade. The dolphin show also not bad and the show is in a cover theater.

Though the aquarium is small, it offers some rather unique exhibits typical and unique to Japan. Many play areas are closed for winter, thus not crowded. The shows are in Japanese but still entertaining ... Used smart phone for explanation translation ... Have fun.

Go out from the Otaru station and head to bus stop No.3 by d road. It takes about 26 minutes to reach the aquarium. It's the last stop, so you won't miss it. Need to climb staircase to reach the entrance of the aquarium. Besides the interesting touch pool there is an outdoor Marine Park whereby you exit from the... More

It is an aging but really nice aquarium. The atmosphere is peaceful and I enjoyed the fact the for a small fee one can feed seals. Enjoyed the seal show mostly. Otaru is beautiful.
