Not a deal breaker if you don’t go but interesting fun facts on the development of railway in Otaru. Maximum 30mins, 45mins if you can read the Japanese descriptions of the items on display

“Otaru-shi Sogo Hakubutukan” or Otaru City General Museum is its official name. However, its Temiya complex branch here is really a train museum based on the former Japanese National Railway’s long-abandoned short line called the Temiya Line Temiya Station. We visited the museum just after...More

Includes old steam loco and passenger car that you can board. Fun interactive switching game. Good history with some working dioramas. Nice turntable display with locos over time. Spent about an hour. For train buffs, an interesting small museum.

Good train museum located in Otaru, take a bit of time to walk there from the canal, children should like it here.

Wonderful displays of uniforms railway workers throughout the ages. Fabulous interactive scenes of how and when the railway was constructed. Also great visualization of the different trains and their uses. There is also a large science room upstairs and a crafts room down the hall.

There are two parts, the old warehouse buildings and the railway museum. Both are excellent. The restored buildings give one an appreciation for the many unrestored buildings all around. The railway museum includes several trips per day of a steam locomotive pulling a carriage, a...More
