Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's located on Sakaimachi Street.
It's a large building, divided into several floors with different themes.
There's a Western floor, a Japanese floor, and a country floor.
There's a restaurant called Kitaichi Hall, and I wanted to try their soft serve ice cream, but there was such a long line that I had to give up.

Many shops in Otaru selling glass items but this is one of the biggest we went which has a wide range of items and designs. I wanted to buy a sake set which I found here - good quality and pretty. They packed it nicely but told me to hand carry onto plane. Tax free for spending above a minimum amount. I thought this place includes some glass making tour but probably I was mistaken. Nevertheless a good place to look around and get something you like

I think I've found heaven.... most beautiful collection of glassware since my trip to Venice 2 years ago -- in fact, Otaru and Venice are very much linked together -- there is a Venetian store and museum there as well. I will say that the only negative was that they do not ship to the USA so whatever you get has to be sent somewhere in Japan or packed with you. The packing, however, is expert and world class so don't hesitate to buy anything you can fit to take home. You'll also get a tax refund too.... the employees are like angels from heaven. They take pride in everything and the pieces.... when I got home I was sorry I did not buy even more than I did. You will have an impossible time deciding what to get! Could not say enough about the place - a must see in Otaru!

Beautiful handicraft, loved the sake sets especially. Nice limited edition seasonal pieces for gifts. Not cheap but not likely to get similar elsewhere.

Do spend some time watching craftsman skillfully making glass merchandizes. It is amazing. Glass products here are creative and beautiful. Prices reflect expert craftsmanship and quality.

Nice souvenir - temperature changing cup (complete w scenic views unique to Otaru). There is a man that will demonstrate to you how it changes colour in hot and/or cold water. My kids bought one each. Not expensive. Amazing service and packaging. We were quite awed with the simple act of covering the paperback with plastic (so that the snow doesn't wet the paper bag).

Plenty of glassware to choose from, price is reasonable, packaging was very good. We bought a couple of cups which can change color when pouring hot water

I could spend quite long time to look around. so cute and wonderful goods are all over and I could not walk away without purchase. I loved many small lamps however, I couldn't buy any of them because the electric socket is different from Korea. But still regret not to buy little fox lamp, bear lamp, cat lamp, and owl lamp... Maybe it would be a good excuse for me to re-visit there!

Hi, I'm a senior citizen traveling with my husband. We'll be in Sapporo and want to visit you in Otaro. Should I do this as a day trip or should I plan to stay in Otaro. How do I get from Sapporo to Otaro? How long is the journey?
I understand that you do not ship to the US. Is that correct?

Hi, there, I traveled Hokkaido several months ago, I based in Sapporo and made navette to Otaru, Noboribetsu, etc. If I remember, from Sapporo central train station to Otaru, it took me less than 40min.. maybe 30 min. It depends on which train you take, there is express and regular train. I did one day trip to Otaru from Sapporo, where I booked for my hotel for whole journey. But if you stay one night in Otaru, it is not bad idea. Anyway, Otaru is small town where you can see only one long street where you can find many shops, museum, craftsman's workshop studios. What I recommend is get off from minami Otaru station, which is one stop before Otaru station. From Minami Otaru, you walk toward Otaru,(it is just one main street), you can finally reach the Otaru canal, which has nice view at night. The pass which I bought was Sapporo-Otaru welcome pass which allow one day round trip. That is cheaper than to buy one way ticket, two times. You can buy at the airport, information center. But if you stay over night, no need to buy this pass. FYI, I strongly recommend to enjoy hot spring spa in Noboribetsu, if you like hot spring.
