Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I didn't expect the POLA Museum to reach the levels of Impressionist collections that I frequently visit, but I did expect that the special exhibitions would be worthwhile. I have to say that I have never seen Bonnard so poorly represented as in the current exhibit of "Interior Visions".

The permanent collection was a better representation of works. Cafe was relaxing as was the outdoor nature walk.

I don't think I would return unless I was assured that the temporary exhibitions were superior to what I viewed.

The collection in this museum is mediocre. They have one or more mediocre examples of every major artist. I think the exhibit included 5 Renior's from their collection, three of which proved that even Renior had "bad days". One was fair and one was up to expectations. We normally don't see the Renior's "bad days"- top flight museums, such as the Clark Museum in MA, USA, don't collect mediocre paintings from major artists. The same was true of the other major artists represented in the exhibit. The "up side" was the Western style Japanese art, which we do not normally see. From what I have seen of museums in the Hakone area, they are basically "tourist traps" rather than "first rate museums". I suppose that this museum does its best based on its mediocre collection.

They had a temporary exhibit of Modigliani that was very good. The permanent collection was great. The restaurant was great and not too pricy. All around a good stop.

The building itself is worth a visit. This is not meant to detract from the interesting, worthwhile exposition of modern art.
You can actually walk to it from Gora train station.

This is the second time I’ve visited the Pola museum . The exhibits rotate so there’s always something new .A fantastic collection of impressionist painting ,
The food is good in the restaurant and there’s a great trail around the woodland grounds .

A real surprise in a rural location. Fascinating exhibition comparing great artists and contemporaries who worked in a similar style. Matisse, Picasso, Dali, Bonnard, .
But best of all was “citadines” by celine hougelmont . A blue pool with bowls floating, touching each other and making surreal sounds. Che k it you tube. Beautiful.
HAkone is worth a visit.

I can't believe we essentially just happened to be visiting a city with this extensive and impressive an art collection. The Pola Museum has some of the finest works by known artists such as Monet and Matisse I have ever seen. It far outshines the Peggy Guggenheim museum in Venice. Leave time to stroll the nature paths surrounding the museum. But skip the overpriced cafe with unfriendly service.

It is in an outdoor setting. And it is beautiful, add the outdoor art work and sculptures. I would go again on my next trip to Hakone. It is great for kids.

My family thought this was one of the most beautiful museums they had ever visited. The architecture, the setting, the art work all was as good as it could be. This is a museum you won't want to miss!
