Tried to book for a friend who cannot speak Japanese and the booking was not accepted. 友達に旅館を予約してみたら、拒否されてしまった。日本語を喋らない人が泊まられないと言われた。

After 10 days in Japan and walking 10+ kilometers every day, Tenzan is the solution to your aches and miseries. Tenzan is a bit pricy compared to other local onsens, but the quality is far above the rest! It was a bit awkward at first, but the steam and dark ambiance lets you ignore your fellow nude bathers if you... More

Before stepping into the onsen, be sure to try out the delectable selection from their lovely restaurant. The entire place has been tastefully appointed in wood and tatami. You can also get nice but pricey souvenirs from the gift shop. The onsen was indeed delightful; all of the day's trekking melted away.

What to say, the place is just filled with grace and serenity, everything is nice to see, to feel, to enjoy. Baths are perfect, in the middle of the woods, from chilled cold to holly hot, a small sauna, salt, places to rest. Simple and authentic. Filled with locals. Mainly as a matter of fact. To visit if you can

We have visited this onsen recently. I was not impressed by it as we have been to another excellent one in the area the previous day. The setting is very normal, NO JACCOUZI, presence of different bath from cold to very hot water. The relaxing area was very crowded (a lot of foreigners). My wife told me that the woman's... More

We visited Hakone especially for a trip to experience an Onsen. The Tenzan Tohji-kyo was fantastic and well worth the effort of getting to Hakone! It was incredibly clean with basins and shower heads to thoroughly clean yourself before dipping into the different temperature pools ranging from very hot to a much needed cooler plunge pool. There is also a... More

We came to Hakone on the advice of some friends and we were glad to find out about this onsen as they accept tattoos! The whole building complex is beautiful (once you're inside) I can only speak for the ladies pools but what an experience, I spent two hours (feeling liberated with no clothes!) wandering from pool to pool, soaking... Magical and surreal experience! Mostly locals are here enjoying the 6 different pools outside. We went on a Rainey cold day that was absolutely perfect for this experience! They only except cash and don't be daunted be all the cars lined up outside. Once outside by the pool area it didn't feel crowded at all and everyone was so respectful.... More
