This is not an easy trip if you have limited mobility despite assurances. We went to Mount Fuji, the coach parked up a good 200 yards from the centre, so we didn’t get out of the coach. Then we went for “lunch”, which was not...More
We enjoyed our boat trip on a mock pirate ship as part of the cable/ropeway/rail trip in the Hakone region using the Hakone Free Pass. Nice views. We were there when clouds covered Mt. Fuji, but it was still an enjoyable visit and took us...More
Although it was a Misty Moisty Cloudy day ,we did get to take some good photos of the Red Gate and Lake Ashi .....Not much to say. Caught a slight glimpse of Mt Fuji before the clouds got in to cover the whole mountain
Like many places in Japan, the townships around the lake are tired and in need of tidyup. After arriving via the cable-car from Hakone we strolled around the port of Tokendai where the 'pirate' ships depart. By all means take the Cable Car it is...More
There was much more space with a 500yen upgrade (400 with the Hakone pass), with indoor seating and a separate open air top deck for viewing.
The 'cruise' was short and unfortunately the clouds meant we didnt see anything of Fuju san but the views...More
Although distance from either Shinjuku or Tokyo Station by train is a bit far (Around 2.5 to 3 hours), where you have to change train twice and again change to Hakone Ropeway (Cable Car), the trip is worth going. Our family have reached Togendai Station...More
The bus service runs very regularly to Lake Ashi where the 'pirate ship' takes you across the lake to the ropeways which take you higher up the hillside. We were fortunate to get a glimpse of Mount Fuji during the crossing but were later rewarded...More
Lake Ashi itself is lovely. A caldera lake (elevation 723metres above mean sea level), it is surrounded by steep mountains that are thickly wooded. The air is fresh and cool.
The brochures say that Mt Fuji should be visible (in the northwest direction) from the...More

In addition, the Hakone Free Pass is around 4,000 JPY, that includes an unlimited pass to tozan train, hakone ropeway, hakone cable car, lake ashi cruise, odakyu buses, etc. If you are planning to do only 3 activities half day is enough and i don’t think purchasing Hakone Free pass would be practical. Just bear in mind too that the first train from Shinjuku Tokyo to Hakone departs around 7 am and reach at around 9 am. I am not sure though the schedule of Romance Car, you can inquire about all these in advance at Odakyu Customer Service Center in Shinjuku Station. They have a number but I no longer have it.
Please note as well that each areas are quite far from each other, it’s a bit exhausting to do all for a half day based on my experience. Check too if there is a direct bus to Kawaguchiko as I believe you will have to take a bus to Gotemba and from there, there should be a bus to Kawaguchiko.
What we did a few months ago is the other way around, we’ve started from Mount Fuji area first as there is an early bus from Shinjuku that departs at 6 am (prior booking is required) — it is advisable to check where the bus station is prior to avoid missing it.
We’ve allocated 2 days for this trip as the travel time is really long and there were lots of places worth seeing. Recommended number of days for Hakone and Fuji is 3 days and buying yhe Fuji Hakone Pass would be practical. Please do let me know if you have any other questions. I hope this help.

The Hakone Free Pass by Odakyu Railway is a discount pass for exploring Hakone, with unlimited use if Odakyu affiliated buses, trains, ferry, cable cars and ropeways. You can buy this pass at Shinjuku station, Odakyu counter, 2 days pass Yen5,140, 3 days pass Yen5,640. The train to Hakone has a luggage compartment so no problem with you. The station at Hakone - Yumoto station is not complicated at all. There are English speaking crew even at the bus stop. Have a gr8 time in Hakone.
