住宅街の中にあり、どこにでもある普通のお寺かと思ったら、室町時代に三浦一族の竹ノ下小次郎という人が創建したそうです。
しかし、もっと前に北条政子が、源頼朝の供養のために創建したと書いてあるものもあります。
どちらにしろ戸塚の中でも相当歴史があるお寺のようです。戸塚七福神の一つ・恵比寿様の像が境内にあります

爆笑エピソードを一つ。むかし、住職が龍の石像を注文したら｢いまはない｣といわれ、代わりに送られてきたのが恐竜の石像でした。いま境内の片隅に恐竜が置かれているのも｢龍も恐竜もたいしてかわりはないだろう｣ということでそのまま設置。地元のボランティアガイドさんが解説してくれました(大爆笑)。

場所の説明がむつかしいのですが、戸塚駅から歩いて10分ほどの住宅街にあるお寺です。境内には大きな観音様が安置されておりました。住宅街ですが、緑も多くて落ち着いた雰囲気の寺院でした。戸塚七福神の一つだそうです。

戸塚駅西口から国道1号線を北に歩き、蔵坪交差点で左に曲がり横浜新道手前で左に曲がったところにあります。
山号は竜谷山と言い、1210年の創建なので戸塚宿で七福神を祀る最古のお寺と思われます。境内で、長い竹竿を持った恵比寿さんの姿が印象的でした。
