Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very beautiful! You could see the navy ships and submarines, and beautiful flowers and easy to walk. There were benches and many kids.

We visited the Verny Park a couple of times on our way to the train station. It is very well landscaped with lots of benches to sit and enjoy the view. You have great views of the Navy ships both US and Japanese. Nice place to enjoy the sun and read a book.

Verny Park was named for the French engineer who designed the Yokosuka arsenal/ironworks. Apparently, this was the location where many western "firsts" took place. The arsenal was apparently a tourist attraction and was the first spot in Japan to institute, among other things, a 6-day work week. Anyway, the part is somewhat narrow as many have observed. But, it's a well-manicured, peaceful spot by the water. From the park, you can see many ships (DDGs and SS primarily) of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force. The US 7th Fleet base is also visible but none of the US ships are visible from the park. The park has a museum to Mr. Verny but I didn't have time to go. The Japanese also salvaged one of the 16 inch guns from the Battleship Mutsu. The Imperial Navy's Mutsu was the world's first ship to be equipped with 16 in guns which became the standard on many subsequent classes of battleships. The Mutsu suffered an internal explosion in 1943 and sank. The gun is quite impressive! The park also has a number of memorials and monuments to Japanese warships. And, the original shipyard gates are still in position from when this area was part of the Japanese base.

The park is situated along the waterfront between Daie Mall and Yokosuka JR station. The park is named in honor of French military officer and naval engineer François Léonce Verny, who played important role in the construction of Yokosuka arsenal and military industrial infrastructure of Yokosuka during last years of Tokugawa regime and Meiji revolution. There are the monument and museum dedicated to him in the park. However, the most interesting thing in the Park is that it is the best place to see the warships. Despite the fact that Yokosuka is famous for being the main advanced base of the American 7th fleet, American ships from the Park are not visible. All ships belonged to the Japanese naval self-defense forces. The results of the spotting were the latest Japanese helicopter carrier Izumo, which the Japanese decided to convert into a light aircraft carrier with an air group of deck "Lightnings" F-35B and 3 Oyashio-class submarines, the body of which is made with the use of rubber noise-absorbing elements.

This park is not so wide but very long and is very close to JR Yokosuka station.
I could see Mr.Oguri's and Mr. Fancois Verny's statues there. Mr. Very after whom this park was named is a French engineer who constructed Yokosuka Ironworks requested by Mr.Oguri, high ranking officer of Tokugawa Government for the modernization of Japan but later decapitated after civi war by Meiji Government.Yokosuka ironworks became Yokosuka shipyard then Yokosuka Naval Arsenal belonging to Japanese Imperial NavyBase there.
The Navy base was occupied by USA after WW2 and now US Navy base.My late father was ordered to come to a marine corps for the first training there before working overseas occupied places. He should have passed through the Guard gates still existing here. I could see Izumo, a big helicopter carrier luckily.

So, Verny Park represents a place on the waterfront of Yokosuka, the old Japanese military arsenal and navy shipyard, designed by French naval architect Le'once Verny (hence the name of the park), just outside the US and Japanese Navy Shipyard dry docks.
The park is filled with flower gardens and when in full bloom, the flowers are absolutely gorgeous! Of course, on this trip, on March 23, 2019, there were no blooming flowers, unfortunately; its a bit too early in spring. This doesn't mean that the park isn't worth visiting this time of year. In fact, really, its a great time to visit and do a DIY lunch, alone or with someone, the entire family, friends even. It's not crowded this time of year!
The scenery is pleasant enough, what with the water just steps away. And who doesn't like seeing boats and ships tasing by, the waves rolling in and the smell of fresh salt water? I love it!
There are bathroom facilities just on the edge of the park, and the Yokosuka train station (JR line) is just across the street. One could catch a train for about a 40 minute ride and be in Kamakura enjoying the shops there in no time.
Enjoy Verny Park, especially this time of year, and be prepared fro this flowers to start blooming!

The park is really just a relatively narrow walkway along the water. It is pleasant but otherwise nothing special.

Awesome place for a run or walk. Beautiful views. Adjacent to an Aeon shopping mall and Starbucks for a post-hike snack.
