We came here as part of a Kawagoe visit on a very busy Obon bank holiday. The town was packed & this street was no exception but we had promised our 3 year old a visit to 'sweet street'. As I had our 6 month old napping in a sling, I stood in the shade (it was a 35°C day)... More

Sells traditional cheap Japanese candies. Long gluten stick snacks and sweet potato snacks are sold here. The place was really small though. Like a little alley. I expected the place to be larger. When we went there after lunch on a weekday the place was deserted. I can't even remember if there were people manning the stalls.

On a fine winters weekday at 4 pm there was only 1 sweet shop open in this intriguing lane. Good variety of mostly boiled sweets, in unusual flavours, available to sample and purchase. I was disappointed with our timing though, have heard it's more lively on weekends (although undoubtably also more crowded)

There are variety of sweets you can find on the streets. Take a walk and enjoy the sight seeing. lots of food made with sweet potatoes and one will wonder what they are. Saw people buying the giant sticks but not sure how it taste likes.

You can find many kinds of confectionery and souvenir here. However, they did not attract me much as there are too many weird and surprisingly sweet products in Japan. I went to Raku raku bakery, which is quite popular among both locals and tourists, for their miso bread. The bread was just ok but their ampan was delicious, so I... More

Grandpas and grandmas sell sweets from the stall in their stores which they surely must have owned for generations. It's cute, tucked away, an ally off the beaten path. Some toys also sold.

Definitely worth visiting when you happen to come to Kawagoe. Not everyone knows the significance of this place BUT believe me this place is pretty significant since it once supplied Tokyo of all the candies and goodies it needed/wanted before. Also, you get to see some traditional and old-fashioned Japanese sweets/candies that doesn't necessarily have chocolates.

although I have been to Kawagoe so many times, it took me a while to find where Confectioner's Yokocho was. If you follow the sign, however, you can easily get there. when we say confectioner, you may imagine cakes or cookies. here at confectioner's backstreet, there is a number of candy makers. you may hear rhythmical sound of chopping candies.

Very nice candy area, with some traditional and local specialty candies and cookies. However, some shops may close during weekdays. More demos and treats and open shops during weekends. A must-visit place in kawagoe.
