Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Highlight of our Kawagoe visit. Kawagoe Festival, equivalent to Carnival in Western Countries, is the only event that inheretates Edo period scenes. Among the museum's collections are the real huge vehicles. Each district of the city has its own featured vehicle and costumes etc, and the vehicles take turns to show in the musuem. The staff, most of whom are senior folks, are not so fluent in English, but they were making huge efforts to explain interesting hidden details of their display.

If you're passing by this during your walk though Ichibangai, try to pay this museum a visit. Inside it pretty well organised and you can tell that lots of effort has been placed here to tell you as much as they can about the Kawagoe Matsuri. The main exhibit inside are 2 huge floats that was used in an actual Kawagoe Matsuri. The details of these things are just so refined and it's amazing to look at. The staff is very friendly and you will feel welcomed at all times. All exhibits have english descriptions beside the japanese ones, however you can tell the english descriptions are simplified compared to the japanese, but it's still a nice read if you're interested.

Nice place to visit while in Kawagoe. We took shelter inside while there was the weird hot and rainy weather going on outside

This is a definite must see, the staff are very friendly and happy to share their knowledge. There is a video about the festival and floats as well as a lecture. The floats are beyond amazing! The detail and the work is incredible. Lots of places to sit down, modern bathrooms and very nice people. My wallet was happy that the gift shop did not have mall replicas as I would have bought them all. Photography is allowed everywhere except not video taping the videos.

Very reasonable entry fee and friendly man at the ticket counter. The museum shows how wonderful the festival must be, and goes to some detail showing the beautiful floats and how they are made. I was fascinated to see how the floats are steered!

The UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Kawagoe Festival only happens during the third weekend of October (Saturday and Friday). If you can't visit during those two days, you can still see the floats and other parade paraphernalia displayed here.
There is a very minimal entrance fee as well as free wifi connections (that barely works).

(visited in end of March-2018, with friends with young teen.)
My first time though heard of this KoEdo place for years now. Stumbled into this museum as we headed towards the riverside with the thought of blossoming sakuras. .
Turned out to be very nice n the museum staffs are very helpful n friendly. We were given detail explanation about the origin n how the float is built n the meaning of the festivals.
Can be enjoyed in an hour. A show movie clips of the real festival is run in the main exhibition hall. Slopes that will allow the full view of the tall float is accessible to all.
Then it will lead to hallway full of displayed of displays, photos n more explanation of the festivals from the past.
There is another movie clips explaining how the gigantic dolls are dressed. Facsinating.

See the movie! It is only in Japanese but the images give an amazing sense of the scope of the festival and help to understand how the floats have been used to entertain more than 1 million people for two days in October each year for 370 years!

Kawagoe Matsuri Kaikan or the festival museum was located on the main shopping street. If you could not attend the actual festivals at site, you could view the displays on floats etc in this museum as an alternative. Entrance fee was necessary but the staff there were patient and helpful to explain to visitors on individual functions held in the area. Nice place to learn Kawagoe history.
