Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited the Kawagoe City Museum on the second day of a two-day visit to Kawagoe. It was a warm national holiday in September. In a city like Kawagoe with so much to see outdoors, it is easy to bypass museums for the more dynamic attractions. We had already been to see the daimyo's palace that morning where we bought a ticket to visit multiple places for a reduced fee. The museum was a short walk away, and on a hot day, a welcome cool retreat. We were very fortunate that a craft demonstration was just beginning. We enjoyed an informative and relaxed demonstration of the making of a katana (samurai sword) sheath before moving on to the exhibition rooms.

The museum is not large so the displays are compact with the items carefully chosen to take you through the history of the city from prehistoric times. We had seen the Oedo-style buildings on the previous day, so the large dioramas of how they were constructed and the examples of the layers of wall construction were of particular interest. There was some English signage but I always want more.

We also heard a docent's talk about the old city using a model - very interesting but in Japanese.

At first I gave the rank of 5 and it is 5 for Japanese understanding visitors. I've given a 4 for others. Still worth your while, just not such a complete experience.

Our museum guide spoke English and was really knowledgeable, answering questions we had. She was also very enthusiastic. It was a very pleasant visit to this museum and it wouldn't hurt to stay long or go back and appreciate other displays if we had the luxury of time.

At the far end of the shopping street was Kawagoe City Museum where there were many exhibits on the history of Kawagoe city. The museum was not large but the staff there was pleasant and conversed well with foreign visitors in English. A nice place in town where you could find more on the local background.

We were lucky enough to visit the museum when there was a private exhibition on display. Although we could not take photos of this it was very informative about the Great fire of Kawagoe and rebuilding of the town after.
The rest of the museum was also very interesting with exhibits of pottery from the Yayoi and Kofun eras. Although small in comparison to other museums I have visited, it gave a wonderful insight into life in this area and was well worth the visit.

Today my family and I went to the City Museum, We came to Kawagoe to look around and enjoy the vintage town, since we were here we decided to go to the City Museum! The City Museum was a terrific place for our pre teen kids.

The early modern times is a great exhibition to go to because even though all the signs are mostly Japanese, some signs are in English. The models, vintage items and everything, were all so detailed and amazing.

We spent about an hour at the museum looking through all of the exhibitions that was very interesting and beautiful!

I highly recommend everyone to go to the water dripping bell sound area in a small outdoor garden! The garden is next to the last exhibition at end . The water bell sound is indeed amazing! Try it ! ( see my 1st photo )

The inside mechanism of many old tools were shown. My children really enjoyed coming to the museum (surprisingly) and were busy looking around and exploring!
I will never forget this memorable museum in Kawagoe!
