Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I visited the temple to coincide with the special public viewing of the "Maniden Secret Buddha, Nyoirin Kannon Statue." The Maniden itself is open to the public, but the special public viewing requires an admission fee of 500 yen. The actual Nyoirin Kannon statue is much smaller than I imagined, and this was its second public viewing, with no plans for it to be open to the public in the future, so I was grateful to be able to see it. Incidentally, photography is permitted, and many visitors took photos.

The main hall of Engyo-ji Temple is the Maniden. It is a building that can be seen from the temple monument, and reminds us that it is a large temple on a mountain. This time, we climbed the mountain on foot as part of a hike, so the gates had not yet opened and there were no worshippers, but there were many local hikers around.

As we walked up the Nishizaka approach, the road finally turned downwards, and Maniden stood in front of us, looking up. We reached the main hall of Engyo-ji Temple, and were able to enter the building by climbing up steep stone steps. On the day of our visit, it was Setsubun bean-throwing day, so the hall was full to capacity. By the way, there was free WiFi, which made us feel that it was indeed a large temple. There was also a TripAdvisor sticker at the sutra office.
