Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I read about the castle gardens so made a point of visiting them. I don't know why they call them the castle gardens because they're nowhere near the castle (23 minutes walk away). It has its own gardens. whilst they're not unattractive, I wouldn't make a special effort to see them. Concrete features heavily and there are many steps. It would be a good meeting place because there's seating.

Certainly not a traditional garden, but a very creative use of an interesting space. There are a couple of levels which draw your attention. The use of all the materials and flow of water make this an intriguing place to stop and enjoy for a short period of time. Well done to those who designed & created this space.

Located just to your right as you exit the station this garden is very modern and not at all like a traditional Japanese garden. That said it is of visual interest and includes a nice water feature.

Leaving the station towards the Himeji Castle, one cannot miss the Sunken Garden on one's right. The impression is not much as the amount of concrete overshadows the greenery. It may be that in February it is not th best season to stop and leisure around.

this is a nice place to relax and chill for a bit after your hectic walk in and around the Himeji castle.

This is a very pretty area where you can chill and relax after walking all day up, through and around the castle and ample gardens. This is close to the station so we did this on our way back, just after lunch with a small group of people and we all had a nice time here. It's a garden area, with plenty of stairs (strollers and bikes are out) and very peaceful. So a nice chillax before returning the hussle bussle of the train station and the city.

This is a lovely part of Himeji station, and while it is obvious most people come here to see the castle, it's worth to go through the garden for a minute or two, just to appreciate its lovely architecture.

I didn't go out of my way to visit the Sunken Garden, but as it was right next to the train station it was hard to miss. As long as you're not expecting a 'normal' garden - there's the pretty Kokoen Garden next to Himeji Castle for that - and take this as a bit of urban landscaping then the Sunken Garden is a very pleasant place to go, perhaps in the evening on the quest for dinner.

We didn't actually walk around the garden, but sat at Starbucks above it and it looks a lovely area, bright cheery and airy
