Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Relax town to walk around; see dr. Seihaku’s old japanese house in the pre-WW2 time. Enjoy local seafood restaurants. Watch schools of fish swimming along the marina. Skip that Pearl Island!

Not much to do here except if you went on a boat cruise. Particularly in the morning, it is beautiful to see fishermen at work. The scenery is to be marvel but activities for tourist is limited.

We visited Toba as a day trip from Nagoya. The purpose of our visit was to see Mikimoto Pearl Island. Toba is about 2 hours by train from Nagoya and is able to be reached using a JR line. If you have a JR pass you can use it but there is an extra charge because the train uses another company's rail line for a small section of the trip. The additional charge is collected by the guard on the train and at the time we travelled it was 510 yen each.

Toba Bay and outlying islands are beautiful to visit especially if you take one of the boats from the harbor. There is couple of larger boats that hold a hundred people but I would suggest taking one of smaller boats. It costs about $$30-40 for 90 minutes to 2 hrs per person. There are many different boats with competitive prices. Like anything in Japan, they are all licensed so don't worry. No one really will try to cheat. But you can bargain down so don't take the first bait. It's worth the boat trip.

We did a one hour cruise around part of the bay which looked beautiful but unfortunately we were there when the weather was dreadful so we did not see it at its best. The cruise we were on was a bit disappointing as the commentary was only in Japanese so be careful which one you choose.

My elderly mother and I was approached by the owner of a boat at Toba station. He offered a 40 minute cruise around Toba Bay for 3000 yen per person. We were the only passengers and the man announced the names of all the islands in Japanese during the ride. I doubt he knew any English. He was great. He gave us a packet of chips to feed the seagulls and that was a lot of fun. It wasn’t particularly inexpensive, but I thought it was way better than riding on the larger, more touristy boat that they have there. He dropped us off at Mikimoto Pearl Island and we spent about 90 minutes there. We then walked back to Toba station which took less than 10 minutes.

The view and the ambience of the area is excellent. One can get a ferry to take you around the bay. One can also buy cultured pearls as souvenirs at the shops around the bay

On the sunny day it can be one of the most picturesque places n the world.

Hundreds of little inlets and bays.

Great for kayaking/beach bbq/jet skiing/swimming.
