Very near from Nishinokyo station, Kintetsu line. World Heritage Yakushi-ji was founded at about 1,400 years ago. Yakushi-ji has many beautiful statues and buildings. For example, Yakushi-sanzon (national treasure), Seikamzeon-bosatsu (mational treasure) are breathtaking beautiful statues. National treasure building "Tou tou" (east tower) is under disassemble and repair now. Work will finish at 2020. Worth to visit.

Enjoyed this a little more than other sights in Nara simply because there were very few people there ... One pagoda is under restoration however this doesn't detract Fatima visit to see the various buildings and huge Buddhas inside. Almost a Zen like feel despite this being a Buddhist temple. Enjoyed the lotus gardens which were in full bloom. Walk... More

薬師寺 Yakushiji I wanted to see the Eastern Pagoda, as it is an 8th century original and sole surviving example of such architecture from the Hokuhou-jidai (Late Asuka Period), but it was covered in scaffolding for maintenance : ( so I could only see the modern era recreation of the Western Pagoda, which was still beautiful, though red not black,... The giant Buddha contained within this temple makes you feel very small when you walk around. The grandeur of the temple and the statue impress you

Yukushiji Temple was constructed more than 1300 years ago. One of the most attractive pagodas are three-story twin towers of which the eastern tower is now under repairning. They have many beautiful buddha statues, some of them are nominated as National treasure by Japanese government. As around 45 minute-journey from KYOTO, let's go there. Worth visiting, the site is really... More

I am sure there's a lot of history to this temple but his temple is not nearly as impressive compared to Todai-ji. It's about 30 mins from the city center. The entrance fee of 800 yen was way too much for what's there to see. I guess if I were a Buddhist, I might enjoy this temple more. If you... More

This temple is one of 9 Unesco world heritage sites in and near Nara. It's accessible by a 30-minute bus ride. We spent only an hour, and felt it was the least architecturally interesting of the 5 Unesco sites we visited. We suggest you spend your time at Toshodaiji, which is on the same bus route and much more impressive.

We were thinking to have a walk after having a heavy meal of okonomiyaki at Kameya Restaurant. Hence visiting Yakushiji-Temple is the best option as the temple is only 5 mins walk from the restaurant and guess what, it ended up we have a great time at the temple. There are many local doing prayers at the temple and we... More

It's underunconstruction at the moment and cost alot of money to see very little. I wish I knew before buying the ticket. It's far away from the closet bus stop and they stop running after 4 even if you come to the temple around at 3-3:30.
